Hey everyone,
What’s the noise level in the neighborhood tonight? Can anyone on lower Dennis/Fenton/Plainview hear Bowstring? I’ve been trying to keep Lt. Borneo updated if we hear anything even on nights when nobody is calling in complaints. Won’t be home until after 10 tonight.
Thanks!

Here’s what I heard from Megan Patton regarding the upcoming meeting:
“I’m sorry for the excess sound. You may already know, but Council member Jones sent an item to committee for further discussion on how to manage outdoor entertainment in mixed use areas. I believe that will be heard in the Safe., Vibrant, and Healthy Communities Committee on April 22nd in Council Chambers. You are welcome to attend. There is usually time for public comment as well.”
AND
“No registration needed. You can park for two hours for free at the parking deck attached to city hall (222 W Hargett st). If you stay longer than that, be sure to get your ticket validated – it is free to park when you attend a public meeting.
I’m not on that committee, so I’ll just speak generally. Most commonly, the chair of the committee will assess through a show of hands how many people are present to speak on a certain topic. There is usually a presentation from our staff with background and options for the committee. After the staff presentation, speakers usually get three minutes to share their concerns. Then the committee members ask questions and discuss.”
Levi and I will be there, and I plan to cram as much into the allotted 3 minutes as possible!

Hi all,
I wanted to start a new thread re Bowstring’s weekend shenanigans. I spoke to Officer Gawande last night around 9. She was on site and had just spoken to the general manager over there. She assured me that our complaints were founded, but she said that the GM told her that the previous 4 citations had been dismissed!! She did NOT know if this is true or not. If it is true, they were dismissed because Bowstring showed that they were taking steps (lame, ineffective sound-proofing) to mitigate the noise. Apparently bars get a chance to contest the citations, I have never been able to get anyone to clarify the process around how or by whom they get upheld or dismissed.
What this tells me is that we need to demand transparency and clarification around this process from City Council. They need to understand that their noise ordinance offers no disincentive at all to keep bars from violating it.
I know we’re all really busy, but it would be super helpful if everyone called/emailed City Council again and the mayor about this to get answers!
Thank you!!
Lauren

Thank you, Lauren, for the update.
I find it interesting that 4 citations “may” have been dismissed! Especially without notifying our neighborhood, after we have been dealing with Bowstring over a year.
I also find it interesting that Bowstring features “Beer and Banjos” every Tuesday night…which is a PineCone presentation that is…wait for it…sponsored by City of Raleigh!
Sounds a bit fishy…

Y’all hearing this Doors tribute band garbage? Please call 911 if you can hear it! It’s sooooo loud! We’d had a few weeks of peace, but now this. Ugh.
Also, please call Lt. Jason Borneo directly at +1 (919) 996-1581.
Thank you!
