Hi all,
I just heard from Brian Block from Sound City Planning about work they’re going to be
doing in the neighborhood tomorrow and Saturday. They’ll be collecting data at a few
locations and are also hoping neighbors will be willing to answer a survey about our
experiences during the data collection days. I guess Bowstring will be having their last
big shows this weekend.
I don’t know when/how the survey will get sent out but wanted to give everyone the
heads-up. I believe any input would be very useful for them and for the city with
determining what Bowstring’s permits will look like going forward.

That’s great, Denis. I spoke with Sherita Walton a few months back about one of the
citations they received and signed an affidavit they drew up to use in response to
Bowstring’s appeal. Not sure of the status of that case, but with the latest citation,
your input will be valuable.

New subject: Noise survey Update and seeking Timber folks.
Lauren and I talked to the sound engineer this afternoon. We are going to get a link to a
survey about what we experience from Bowstring tonight and tomorrow night. If everyone can
please spend a little time being around after 5:30 on both nights, that would help you
fill out the survey. They will be asking for information about what you hear both from
outside of your houses as well as inside your houses.
Does anyone on here live near Timber and Barksdale or Timber and Banks?They are looking
for a location to set up a monitoring device. If so, please text me off-line 919-961-6549.

On the bowstring website, it looks like they're having 3 people/bands
playing reggae music, which is usually pretty chill.
I don't see anyone listed for tomorrow night. Please correct me if I
somehow got the wrong info. Are the bowstring people aware of the nights
they're giving us the survey?

Just had a good conversation with David, the acoustical engineer who
camped out in my backyard all night. I think it’s important to note in the
survey that tonight’s volume (or lack thereof) was unusual.
It is an iterative process - if the city sets a decibel level for the
permit and Bowstring changes their setup and gets loud again, we keep
complaining and force them to review the permit and its parameters.

Whether they are making structural changes or identifying the decibel level
at which we won’t hear it, either way it’s a win in my book. David, the
Sound Engineer, was explaining to me that both last night and Sunday winds
are blowing in the wrong direction or sound to be carried in our direction.
Their primary goal is to be able to educate the city about what needs to be
taken into consideration when Bowstring applies for a permit to go above
the decibel level designated in the ordinance. I’m not saying this is an
instant fix. We may still experience the need to raise the issue with the
city and/or Bowstring but I do think that the fact that they are paying
specific attention to this particular situation works in our favor.
Bowstring doesn’t want cops showing up any more than we want to be calling
them. If they are playing around with structural changes that keep that
from happening, I would imagine there would be incentive for them to keep
going with that approach, even after this monitoring weekend is over.

setting up an experiment tomorrow, feeling as if they got enough data last
night for their purposes. I was confused by this idea, being that many of
us in the neighborhood didn’t hear anything last night. He explained to us
that with the data he got, which was under ideal atmospheric conditions for
not hearing anything, he will now be able to simulate worst case conditions
to better understand why we typically hear what we hear.
He also indicated that any of us who have not yet filled out last night
survey would still be really helping the process if we were to fill it out

Just had a good conversation with David, the acoustical engineer who
camped out in my backyard all night. I think it’s important to note in the
survey that tonight’s volume (or lack thereof) was unusual.
It is an iterative process - if the city sets a decibel level for the
permit and Bowstring changes their setup and gets loud again, we keep
complaining and force them to review the permit and its parameters.
