Hi, Mark,
Dave and I will be out of town 2/12-2/15 and the last weekend of the
month, but that is fine. Someone can fill us in.
However, if another day is acceptable to everyone, we can meet at our
house. Maybe the third weekend in February (Friday afternoon or evening,
anytime Saturday, or Sunday afternoon).
Thanks,
Gail

Hi Oakwood CERT folks!
We need to have a meeting of Oakwood CERT. On the agenda will be to
elect officers, come up with a meeting schedule, discuss the upcoming
Ace event, discuss recent developments, and ways to participate.
To start off, let me hear from you: what days work better for you?
Weeknights or weekends? Saturday or Sunday? Prefer morning or afternoon
on weekends?
I am looking at Sat. Feb 13th as an initial meeting date, from 10-11 AM.
How does this look for everyone?
I am also working on securing meeting space.
Regards,
Mark

Hi Everyone,
Kim Gazella, Samantha Royster, Shirley Stanley, Julie Rosier and myself
have been working with Bob King, the owner (with his wife Donna) of
Seaboard Ace Hardware to plan an Emergency Preparedness Day event this
spring at Ace. We thought this would be a great opportunity to publicize
our CERT team and it's goals as well as a real service to our community
as Bob has arranged to make available at a discount most all the items a
home emergency/disaster kit should contain that day.
We have some exiting things planned to make this an interesting,
informative and fun event and also a terrific opportunity for the team
to finally come together again. It is planned for *Saturday April 9th
from 10:00 to 2:00 *and we will be getting more info out to you soon,
but wanted you to be able to get it on your calendar now. We will have
two hour shifts available; from 10 to 12, and from 12 to 2, as well as
needing help with set up and tear down.
Please email me asap at wdbecom(a)gmail.com and let me know if you will
be able to participate and which shift you would prefer. I'm looking
forward to seeing you all again!
Thanks,
Don Becom

Hello all - hope you are well.
Just checking in with folks. Weather report just stated that we got 0.30
inches of ice; about 2 inches of total precipitation. We are expected to get
light snow today with high temperature of 33 degrees. Tomorrow (Sunday)
highs are to be near 40 degrees.
I have not been out of the house in 36 hours so don't know the
neighborhood's situation.
At my house, 515 Euclid, we had a power outage yesterday (Friday) from 6PM
until 8PM. It started with 5-6 brief power outages for 5-10 seconds then
power back on - very disruptive to major appliances. We turned most of our
power off at the circuit box after the fifth brief outage.
This morning I hope to walk the neighborhood a bit - to check it out.
Any people you know with special needs/medical needs that it might be
appropriate to check on??

The attached image from NWS Raleigh's noon briefing shows Raleigh
getting anywhere from .10-.50 of ice by Saturday night. In other words,
expect power outages.
Your homework for this weekend (as you're sitting in the cold and dark)
is to think about how CERT might communicate with each other when there
is no power and no phones (wired or wireless). I would like to hear what
you come up with when we are all back online. :)
Stay safe everyone!
Mark

Hey CERTizens,
There is a likelihood of winter weather Friday-Saturday. Please make
your preparations now in anticipation of this storm and carefully watch
the forecasts as they come out. As of now there is a threat of ice
and/or snow but a lot can change between now and Friday. Either could
cause power outages and/or structural damage.
Stay tuned to official weather sources (for instance,
http://www.weather.gov/rah/) , and if you haven't installed the ReadyNC
app on your smartphone now might be a good time. :)
Stay warm!
Mark
