Hey CERTizens! This is a reminder that our next CERT meeting is tomorrow
night. We'll be discussing organizational matters, our upcoming ACE
event, exhibiting at RARS, and other business.
Meeting place is TUMC as before. Hope to see you there!
Cheers,
Mark
Hi, all! Here are draft minutes from our March 17 meeting. We don't need to
approve them until our May 19th meeting but it will catch you up with where
we are if you couldn't make this last meeting.
Thanks, Kim
Thanks, Don, for the good catch on the disaster kit door prize!! I've added
it to this version of the bookmark/handout. I'm hoping to get those printed
in the next few days so we can start handing them out. I've also revamped
the posters a bit -- I'm going to have them made at 18" x 24" for display
purposes. I was going to get larger ones but decided these won't have a
really long shelf life, so we'll spend more $$ when we want posters that
will last longer and be used more generically for more events and other
things.
Kim
Hi, all. Here are some things I've done for our Apr 9 event. I'd like to
get them printed this coming week so if you have thoughts, concerns,
feedback, etc., let me know as quickly as possible. Attached are:
1. Poster about who we are (this will probably be 20 x 30 inches or so)
2. Poster about home disaster kits (ditto)
3. Bookmark sized handout to stuff in bags or hand out around the
neighborhood (this is on 8 1/2 x 11, and will be printed front and back and
cut into quarters)
Mark, please let me know if you do or do not want to be listed as contact
on the CERT poster; if so, do you want just email or both email and phone?
Thanks, Kim
FYI, RARS has generously offered us a draped table, chairs, and power
for RARSfest.
Samantha, do you have a CERT banner that we might borrow for this event?
Cheers,
Mark

Mark,
Due to Booth arrangements we would like to donate a draped booth, 10'x10' with a table, chairs and a/c power. This would be in place of just a table in the Fleamarket. Does this interest you?
Best,
Chuck, K4HF

Mark,
We are glad to hear of your FEMA/CERT sponsored program and possible integration of amateur radio. RARS would provide a free table for your CERT Group. The attendees associated with this activity would be expected to purchase a regular admission ticket for the event. All regular ticket holders are eligible to win cash prizes, the winners being selected throughout the day up until the last drawing at 2PM.
Please present your credentials to Jeff Wittich, AC4ZO at the Fleamarket Entrance.
We hope all will gain by your presence at RARSfest.

Chuck, K4HF

Hi, Chuck.
I am the president of a newly-formed Citizen Emergency Response Team
(CERT) group that's been started near downtown Raleigh. In case you're not aware, CERT is a FEMA-sponsored program to provide disaster recovery training to everyday citizens. It includes basic firefighting skills, first aid, light search and rescue, triage training, and more.

We would like to get the word out about the CERT program and think its mission would appeal to hams. Could you let me know what it would cost for our CERT group to have a table at the upcoming RARSfest?
Thanks much!

Mark N4JMT

Hi CERTizens!
Good news! Gail has informed me that Historic Oakwood's COA meetings are
actually on the 4th Thursday, which leaves the 3rd Thursday still open
for our Central Raleigh CERT meetings. Since we had the most agreement
on the 3rd Thursdays, does anyone have any objection to us making this
the regular meeting date for Central Raleigh CERT?
If I hear no objections, we will go with this schedule and plan our NEXT
MEETING on Thursday, 19 May at 7 PM.
Thoughts?
Mark

Good for my calendar. Wouldnt that be July 21, not July 22? Hugh

I like it! So our meetings for 2016 would be these dates? May 19, July 22, Sept 15 and Nov 17?
I will send you a draft of notes from last week's meeting sometime next week. I am slammed this week with other deadlines.
Thanks, Kim

Thanks for all offers. I have a great spouse and a dear next door neighbor, both eager to get their hands on me! I've nursed both through shoulders and worse, so I'm ready to receive payback . Hugh

How can we/I help, Hugh? ( BTW... Been there; done that. Be sure to be good about your post-op physical therapy. It makes a huge difference in your recovery.)

Good evening, CERTizens!
At Saturday's meeting, I expressed regret that we were unable to talk
about CERT at the RARSfest event. Fortunately, I was wrong! RARSfest
will be held on Saturday, 2 April from 8 AM to3:30 PM.
For those who don't know, RARSfest is an annual swap meet and vendor
exhibition sponsored by the Raleigh Amateur Radio Society (RARS) and
held at the state fairgrounds. RARS seems very excited to have us there.
They are offering a free table in the exhibition hall on the condition
that those manning the table pays for their admission. I have also heard
from a RARS ham who was active with Raleigh-Wake CERT and is interested
in joining our team.
The only drawback is that I cannot attend as I will be traveling that
day. If anyone would like to attend and talk about CERT I think we would
find a very receptive audience!
Here are the details on RARSfest: http://www.rars.org/rarsfest/
If you would like to attend on CERT's behalf, perhaps our grant money
can pay for your admission.
Let me know if you would like to work a shift and discuss CERT and I
will make arrangements. Thanks!
Regards,
Mark
