Hello Central Raleigh CERT Members - hope you are doing well.
I just wanted to update you on the Youth & Family Preparedness Day event we
participated in Saturday June 18.
Things went well. It was the first year for this event so not very many
people came.
CERT had two tables at this event - giving information about CERT,
recruiting for new CERT members, and giving information about home emergency
kits. I estimate 20-30 people came by. One very good thing was that members
of 5 different local CERTs volunteered at the booth (Cary CERT; Apex CERT;
Morrisville CERT; Don Becom and Gail Wiesner of our CERT; and Fuquay-Varina
CERT which is even newer than us).
We had 5 people give contact information to us - wanting more information
about CERT. I know that at least 2 of these people want to get the basic
training and join our CERT.
We started a good relationship with the St Paul AME Church personnel - and
were invited to participate in these event next year.

Hi, all. Who is planning to present about our CERT group on Tues at
Mordecai CAC? I am not willing to do it, b/c they've been listening to me
for four years and are tired of that!
I am happy to support the effort by being there, wearing my vest and
setting up a table with my disaster kit supplies, plus supply the posters
and a million brochures for people. But I need someone to take the lead on
presenting. If no one from our team is able to do this, I'm going to ask
that we be removed from this month's agenda.
The meeting is Tuesday at 7:30p at Mordecai Historic Park Visitors Center,
1101 Wake Forest Road.

Hi, all. We can have a 10-min slot on the Mordecai CAC agenda on June 14 at
7:30. There are a few items ahead of us so we probably will be up around
8:10 or so. I think we should have a lead presenter (maybe Mark or Don or
Dave...) and others of us can be there wearing our vests so people will
know who we are. I'd like to set up a table with our stuff on it so we can
reference it and tell people to check it out after the meeting. We really
need to keep this brief and to the point -- just hit the highlights about
who we are and what we are doing, why it's important to start building a
home emergency kit, and hand out some of our pamphlets. We can also have
more brochures on our display table for people to take.
Sound like a plan? Who would like to be the lead on this? (And promise your
first born that you'll stick to 10 minutes??? LOL.) I have zillions of
brochures, so I'll volunteer to bring those, along with some of my home
emergency kit items.

Bob, thanks a million for hosting our event on Saturday! I hope that we
were able to raise awareness among people about the importance being
prepared. Thank you for all you did for us.
Thanks also to the fantastic Central Raleigh CERT for helping with the
event! We had a good showing.
Don brought some of my stuff to me -- and I have Samantha's display board.
Does someone have the green CERT tablecloth? I need that back so I can get
it to Samantha along with her display board.
Also, I am hoping someone grabbed both of my little acrylic sign holders so
I can use those for other things.

Hi, all. Just a quick rundown on tomorrow's event at Seaboard Ace Hardware.
I don't think it will take us long to set up, so I'm planning to get there
around 9:30 or so. I'm bringing the Krispy Kremes!
1. I have produced posters, door prize slips and sign-up sheets for the
event. Dave is bringing Samantha's CERT tablecloth, the posters, a tripod,
and my box of brochures with him. If others have brochures, you may want to
bring them along.
2. I've given Don the Door Prize sign, prize registration forms, and
sign-up sheets for people who want to learn more about CERT. He will bring
those. I'll try to remember some pencils and pens for the sign up sheets
and door prize registration -- Don, can you bring along a few, too, in case
I forget?
3. Samantha is bringing her stuff!!
4. Bob has tables, our sample home disaster kit and supplies! The water
people will be there, too.
I think we are covered the entire time, incl set up and breakdown. THANK
YOU to everyone who is helping with this, especially to Bob for hosting.
This is a tremendous community service. Central Raleigh CERT members:
Please wear your CERT vest (hat optional) so people know who we are and
will approach us for info.
