Regards, Mark Turner East CAC Chair 741.6329 -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Info Date: Mon, 25 Apr 2011 11:43:14 -0400 From: Kryskowiak, James <James.Kryskowiak(a)raleighnc.gov> To: Mark Turner <cac-chair(a)eastraleigh.org> Mark, Here is some info I retrieved from the different city departments at today's Community Oriented Government meeting: -Raleigh Streets will take all vegetation if it is brought to the street and the fees for the yard waste center are waived if you need to bring it there. -Sanitation WILL NOT take any yard waste if there is construction or any other material mixed in with the yard waste so please remove any misc. debris from those piles and IF POSSIBLE DO NOT STACK YARD WASTE IN FRONT OF FIRE HYDRANTS! -Yard waste vehicles will be out all week. - City CANNOT facilitate the pick up of construction debris so contact FEMA or INS to have private contractors remove it. - DO NOT PUT YARD WASTE IN CITY TRASHCANS IT WILL NOT BE PICKED UP; THE SIZE LIMIT FOR YARD WASTE REMOVAL HAS BEEN LIFTED AND THEY WILL TAKE WHAT THEY CAN SUPPORT. -The City is doing a pass through the neighborhoods and WILL NOT backtrack until the initial pass through is completed; then they will do a second pass. - Private streets will not be handled by City until FEMA approves it, - INFO CAN BE FOUND AT 996-3100 Hope this helps. Most of our neighborhood is in pretty bad shape, so I thought some folks might be interested in checking this out tomorrow. Want to help with storm cleanup? Meet at Lions Park Wednesday!

VOLUNTEER STORM CLEANUP TO COMMENCE IN LIONS PARK AREA ON WEDNESDAY Volunteers will assist with the removal of storm debris from neighborhoods in the vicinity of Lions Park in east Raleigh on Wednesday, April 20, in the second day of a storm cleanup organized by the City of Raleigh Community Services Department. Volunteers who are age 18 or older and are able to assist with debris removal are asked to come to Lions Park Community Center, 516 Dennis Ave., between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday. At the community center, volunteers will sign in and receive instructions. More than 500 people have signed up to aid the cleanup effort since the City began seeking volunteers on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, more than 200 volunteers removed debris from the yards of residents of the South Park neighborhood near Shaw University. The City’s Community Services Department is organizing cleanups in hard-hit neighborhoods within walking distance of community centers, where volunteers can sign in and receive briefings. Neighborhoods are being selected for debris cleanup only after they are safe for volunteers to enter and have received services from the City of Raleigh Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments, as well as Progress Energy. If you are volunteering, please wear sturdy shoes or boots and comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. You also may want to bring hats, work gloves, sunscreen, safety vests, insect repellent, sunscreen, water and snacks. Additional cleanups will take place in other Raleigh communities in the coming days. Volunteers will be notified of dates and places. Powell ES Children XING & Blue Pontiac Vibe

Neighbors, This afternoon a dark blue Pontiac Vibe failed to stop and yield at a school crossing at the intersection of King Charles and Marlborough. Despite the fact that a staff member had stopped traffic, he managed to drive dangerously close behind her. Ms. Bray attempted to stop him and I honked my horn, but he proceeded to turn onto Marlborough, forcing students to stop mid-intersection. The driver was a white male with dark brown or black hair, possibly in his mid-twenties or early thirties. I've definitely seen the car cruise down Rumson before and there is a matching vehicle currently parked at the corner of Millbank/Marlborough.
