There was a large emergency response to the area around Raleigh North late
last night/early this morning. From the scanner traffic, it sounded like a
possible arson outside the buildings. Officer Kryskowiak, could you update
us on what happened? I hope all is OK.
Sue Sturgis
I am so (very!) happy to tell you all that the neighborhood watch sign order
has (finally!) been placed, and the signs should be on their way to us
shortly.
Thank you all for your patience as we navigated through the city's grant
process. I went ahead and ordered the signs on the promise that the city
would be mailing me a check for their half of the cost... and I will now
cross my fingers and hope that this doesn't take another year to arrive!

Hello all,
I have just spoken with the city of Raleigh about the trees that are down in the creek of Marborough Road. They have told me that in a normal case the homeowners would be responsible for the debris that is in the creek. However, due to circumstances the city manager Russell Allen has asked for the city to due an inventory of what is in the creek. They expect to do this inventory next week and the following week. Mr. Allen will then determine if they are going to take care of the debris or alert homeowners that they are responsible. Just an FYI. Thanks!
so it looks like the homeowners are indeed responsible for the downed trees
on that hill. I am sure we could get the Baptist Men out here- this is just
their kind of project, but do we not need to get permission from all of
those homeowners? Anyone here live on King Charles above the creek who can
help organize the efforts on that side? Most of the trees are on that side
of the creek.

I checked with a co-worker who has worked with the tornado emergency
management team, and he said that if it is private property, then the owner
is responsible. These lot lines extend down to the creek, so the trees you
mentioned would indeed be on private property and removal of debris would
fall on the property owner. You might want to check with the Baptist Men
and see if there’s anything they can do.

Jane,
Thank you for the email. I will ask around and see specifically who still
needs help. Would this group have chainsaws? Or are we looking more at
clearing debree?
Thank you!

Hey All,
Thought I'd send a note to see if anyone has references for businesses who
we can buy gravel from for our driveway. Of course, we would need it
delivered too.
Thanks!

Subject: Map of area
To: "jessica.bowen74(a)gmail.com" <jessica.bowen74(a)gmail.com>
Jessica - here's a map of the are I believe you are talking about. The
areas shown in green are the natural areas and greenway land that is
maintained by the city. The lots do go all the way down to the creek, which
is what I suspected. I will see if I can find out info here in the City if
the City is in any way obligated to clean-up the area, but at first glance,
it does not appear that we are. These are property lines that are based on
the real estate records. There may be some factors I am not aware of, so
that's why I will try to get you an "official" answer to this question.
This is an extensive area and I am sure costs would be high if individual
owners have to remove this.

Neighbors,
I am not exactly sure what the City's policy regarding the tornado-related debris placed on the sidewalk is, but it is making Powell Elementary students' walk to school downright treacherous.
If parking a vehicle on the sidewalk is illegal…
The debris is piled on the sidewalks along Marlborough and N King Charles, forcing students to walk in the middle of 35 mph streets.
Is there any way this area can be made a clean-up priority considering the number of student walkers that must take to the street in order to get to school and back every day?
In the meantime let your concern be heard and please vote:
