Just wanted to give a quick update on what's new with the Neighborhood
Watch.
In the wake of the tornado, we're working on reviving the community watch
and getting it up and running once more. Stay tuned for more info there. If
you're interested in helping with the planning for our meetings, please
email me off-list.
If you ordered a community watch sign and have not yet picked it up, please
contact me ASAP! I will happily deliver your sign, I'm just not sure who has
returned to the neighborhood and who is still waiting on reconstruction.
Tuesday (Aug 2) is National Night Out
<http://www.nationalnightout.org/nno/>and I want to ask everyone to
consider turning on your porch lights that
evening (from dark to 11 p.m. is the official suggestion, though I'll be
asleep before 11!) and spending some time on your porch if the weather
permits.
Thanks for your involvement, and if you need help getting your sign
installed, please let me know.

My husband and I live on Rumson and woke this morning to find that our front
door had been tampered with and the doorknob lock broken (but not
successfully picked). We got home late last night, around 1:30, and it was
fine (it's non-turnable now) so it must have occurred sometime between then
and 9 AM; we had the bedroom door closed so wouldn't have heard much. It's
possible they noticed we have an alarm system or were scared off by a
passing vehicle; either way we got lucky, but wanted to share just in case
they try again in the area!

Keep your eyes open for these kids, and call 911 if you see anyone suspicious roaming the neighborhood!

> The scooters are parked under a motion-sensor activated flood light in the driveway. The bulbs have been burnt out in them for the past 3 weeks. I can't say whether the thieves would have been deterred if the light worked but I every other time the bulbs burn out I change them immediately. And I've never had a problem before.

> Also, I saw 6 for sure but believe there might have been as many as 8 or more. For the protection of your and your neighbors things PLEASE call 911 as soon as you see a group of people who simply do not appear to be where they should. Had I seen them from my porch just walking by at 10 pm I would have let an officer determine whether they were actually wandering or not.

> Lastly, the night before or two nights before I heard firecrackers going off a few blocks away. I am now wondering if they were being lit by the same group or at least some of the same people. Did anyone get a chance to see if it was just a pair of kids or more? What about the age?
