FYI: Raleigh waives pickup fee for tree debris for one week

Please call to schedule a FREE pick-up if this weekend's yard waste exceeds normal curbside debris… http://blogs.newsobserver.com/greenscene/raleigh-waives-pickup-fee-for-tree… In the wake of Hurricane Irene, the City of Raleigh Waste Services Department will be waiving the special load pickup fee for tree debris for one week. The city requests that residents prepare vegetative debris in the normal fashion according to yard waste collection guidelines. Tree debris must be no longer than 5 feet long and 18 inches in diameter, and weigh no more than 75 pounds. The debris may be placed out on regular collection day, and can be put at the curbside — not in the street — as residents clean up their property. The city will not issue a code violation between now and Sept. 6. For large amounts of debris that cannot be prepared for weekly yard waste collection, residents may put materials at the curbside and call for a one-time special load collection. The normal $50 fee for this service will be waived for one week. Residents must schedule this pickup by calling 996-6890. Residents and business can also take their debris to the City of Raleigh Yard waste Center at 900 N. New Hope Road, where normal fees will be charged. Millbanker's Volvo on Rumson

Howdy, Last night a transformer on a nearby utility pole exploded several times during the storm. Fortunately the neighborhood still has power, but there's a blue Volvo wagon with a flat tire parked under the damaged lines and very close to the pole. I tried to attach a pic, but it is too big for the listserv. I can email it to a personal account if it helps… Mr. Alford said that the owner left it near 2235 Rumson early last week and lives on Millbank. They left a note, but it is too faded now to read. He said he would like the car to be removed because it is directly in front of his driveway and makes it difficult for him to back-out. Hopefully someone reading this knows the owner and can pass along that the car needs to go ASAP. Barksdale Parking Lot & Violations

Howdy, Anyone who has navigated the street parking situation near the intersection of Barksdale and Raleigh Blvd. knows it can be congested & downright dangerous at times. Local traffic, a steep hill and a bus stop makes this area congested without the addition of street parked vehicles. Here's some common parking violations copied from the Lineberry/Ramsgate Community watch blog: o Parking within 25 feet of an intersection, o Parking within 5 feet of a driveway, o Parking on any part of a sidewalk (including any part of the sidewalk that crosses a driveway), and o Parking where signs indicate that parking is not allowed. Please call 911 to report any car parked in violation of these laws. The police will ticket for any of these offenses. You are not required to leave your name or number. In addition to calling in violations, perhaps No Parking signs could help too? Just around the corner, Rumson Road has a pair of No Parking signs between the top of the blind hill and the bus stop too. Fwd: young teens trying to break in homes

There was an attempted break-in on Colleton Rd., two younger teen boys, black with short hair. One is going around back while the other knocks on the front door. They appear to be targeting homes with no cars in the driveway and no security alarms. Details below, and please keep your eyes open. Of course there are many kids in the neighborhood during the summer who fit that description and are not up to any trouble! When she opened the curtain the young boy was getting ready to break the back door window. They did not get in but she did not get a good enough look expecet that they were young teen age boys black with shot hair. The police came and apparently they are stalking homes with no cars in the driveway and no security signs.
