If you are looking to purchase a basic and an inexpensive security system,
this article reviews a handful of the best DIY security systems. Some of
these do not require a monthly monitoring fee and cost as little as $100:

So I managed to get the handouts to the neighbors on Barksdale and a few on Rumson on Saturday.
I brought a sandwich bag of three inch screws with me to give away as samples and to explain the strike plate fix. Also brought a pen/folder for notes and my smartphone for contacts.
There were a couple of elderly folks who were obviously cautious when they came to the door, so I asked their nearby neighbors who knew them better to talk with them too.
I received lots of tips, concerns and gratitude:) Plus I met nearby neighbors that all shared their love for our community, which was inspiring and worth the effort!
Please post or msg an email address if you would like to receive the PDF to handout on your street and which block/street you'll likely canvas.
Good luck out there and thanks again, Vanessa

Hi folks,
The mailing list work is now complete. Those with Yahoo.com email
addresses can now email the list without breaking it.
Thanks for your patience!

Hey folks,
This morning, due to Yahoo.com's overzealous anti-spam measures, a large
number of list subscribers have been getting their subscriptions
disabled. Since Yahoo.com does not appear to be backing down and I've
got better things to do than manually reenable everyone's accounts, I
will have to upgrade our listserver software.
I'm going to work on this this morning and take the mailing list down
during this time. I hope to have it available again this afternoon but
will send another email once the work is complete. During this time if
you need to communicate anything immediately and the list is unavailable
I suggest you post to the Woodcrest or East CAC Facebook pages.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.
Cheers,
Mark Turner

Hey folks,
A few years ago when we had a few crooks wandering Belvidere Park and
Woodcrest, I organized a "take back the night" type event for neighbors.
We got together after dark with our dogs and had a group dog walk
through the neighborhood.
It was helpful in that neighbors (and dogs!) got to meet each other.
Dogs are also handy for protection and can alert you to people (or
critters) that might be hiding around the homes you are passing. Also,
crooks are not known for bringing their dogs along to their break-ins,
so if you see someone out with a dog it's a good bet that they're legit.
There's also the saying that if your dog doesn't like someone, you might
not like them, too. :)
I would propose that Lockwood and Longview neighbors get a similar group
together and start walking the neighborhood, greeting anyone you meet
with a friendly wave. And if you happen to see anything out of place,
you can make note of it or call it in, depending. Heck, with a group you
can take a vote. :)
I think the only way these guys are going to get busted is if we put
more eyes out there. Stay safe and good luck!
Cheers,
Mark
