Bad mail service here, too; erratic delivery, irregular pick-ups and
packages wedged into the tiny mail slot/left on the steps/on the ground
despite a sign on the box asking for packages to be left on the porch. Jerry
always had a friendly word and did his job well; we'll miss him.

Unfortunately, due to the consolidation of routes,
Jerry was moved to a new
office position.
He mentioned his move to my husband, whom he referred to as "Mr. Van Horn,"
a couple of weeks ago.
Even the kids at Powell knew him as their friendly postman. He was very
much part of our neighborhood and even made an appearance during the N&O's
tornado coverage of the Miller's recovery efforts.
We have been having erratic outgoing service lately too… for my neighbors,
one side of the street will have service while across the street will not?

He will definitely be missed. I have had issues with my outgoing mail
lately as well. Hopefully the new carrier(s) will eventually take as much
pride in their work as he did.

I had been hoping that our neighborhood USPS carrier (Jerry) was just on
vacation, when I noticed that my outgoing mail was no longer being picked up
and incoming mail was being wedged between the flap of my box instead of
being put inside my box.
When I noticed today that mail is still being wedged in the flap, I called
the post office and found out that Jerry will not be coming back to our
route. (I did not call to complain, just to find out what was up. And
I've left a note for the new lady and hope that she will start leaving mail
inside my box.)
Anytime we had a substitute carrier and I got the neighbor's mail, or
other sloppy service, it always made me appreciate what a great job Jerry
always did. He was a friendly and conscientious guy, and mail delivery in
our neighborhood will not be the same without him.
