The address for the owners is easily accessed through public record at
wakegov.com If they
are incurring fees for the issue, they will surely address the situation. Just think it
could be nipped in the bud before the tenants feel things are being handled unfairly.

I agree. However, unless the problem itself is addressed with the tenants there, the
parking for these events will be pushed to our side of Barksdale and Rumson. Anyone up
for contacting the owners?

This is a great example of Communities taking charge of their neighborhood! Good job by
all! Once it is changed to no-parking I will go out and enforce the regulation you fought
for!!

However, it maybe a while before anything can be done or ahead of the first day of school
when traffic will greatly increase on 8/25. Here's the latest comment from the City:
Unfortunately that is unlikely to happen, as all no-parking zones in the City have to be
created by ordinance approved by the City Council. The staff generally does an evaluation
first and then places a recommendation on the Council agenda. The Council only meets once
in August, so their next meeting will be on September 6. Once the Council passes the
ordinance the signs need to be fabricated and a crew sent out to install them. I will pass
on to the Public Works staff your desire to have this issue addressed as soon as possible.
We will see what we can do.

Good information, Vanessa! That section of Barksdale is usually Parksdale and it's a
real problem, especially when the residents are throwing a party.

Howdy,
Anyone who has navigated the street parking situation near the intersection of Barksdale
and Raleigh Blvd. knows it can be congested & downright dangerous at times. Local
traffic, a steep hill and a bus stop makes this area congested without the addition of
street parked vehicles.
Here's some common parking violations copied from the Lineberry/Ramsgate Community
watch blog:
o Parking within 25 feet of an intersection,
o Parking within 5 feet of a driveway,
o Parking on any part of a sidewalk (including any part of the sidewalk that crosses a
driveway), and
o Parking where signs indicate that parking is not allowed.
Please call 911 to report any car parked in violation of these laws. The police will
ticket for any of these offenses. You are not required to leave your name or number.
In addition to calling in violations, perhaps No Parking signs could help too? Just
around the corner, Rumson Road has a pair of No Parking signs between the top of the blind
hill and the bus stop too.

Just FYI, this is not the first time this issue
has come up: Neighbors have been expressing concern about this intersection and the
parking situation on Barksdale for years now. The parking problem isn't so much with
the residents of the house at the corner, but with the large number of guests they have
there for frequent gatherings. It does seem like that first block of Barksdale between
Raleigh Boulevard and Rumson Road should be marked no parking on either side of the street
to protect against the bad accident that's just waiting to happen.

Logan, Here's one of many parts of Raleigh's parking laws:
Sec. 11-2171. - PARKING PROHIBITED IN CERTAIN PLACES.
(a) Obstructing traffic.
It shall be unlawful for any person to stop, stand or park any vehicle
upon a street, or alley, in such manner or under such conditions as to
obstruct the free movement of vehicular traffic, except that a driver
may stop temporarily during the actual unloading of passengers or when
necessary to obey traffic regulations or signs or signals, or signals of
a police officer.
While there isn't any restriction as to how closely one can park to an
intersection, this rule against obstructing traffic should cover it.
If there's a recurring issue with a particular corner, I would file a
report at <http://SeeClickFix.Com> SeeClickFix.Com<http://SeeClickFix.Com>,
requesting a "No Parking" sign.
If there's an immediate issue, knock on your neighbor's door, introduce
yourself, and politely ask them if they can move the cars. If that
doesn't work and the cars are posing a threat to public safety, call 911
and have an officer get it cleared.
Thanks!

Tonight while I was trying to exit the neighborhood via Barksdale Dr.
onto Raleigh Blvd., a Raleigh city bus that was trying to turn in got
stuck and completely blocked 4 lanes of traffic on Raleigh Blvd.,
because he was unable to turn into the neighborhood. And the three cars
in my cluster were unable to move out of the way for him because of the
parking along Raleigh Blvd. It took us 5 minutes to untangle the mess
while the bus was at risk of an accident.
And on the nights when there is a party at the house at the corner of
Barksdale Drive, I can barely get back into the neighborhood because of
the cars parked (or trying to park) on that narrow strip of road.
Does anyone agree that allowing parking at that corner is hazard? If
so, what needs to be done for the street to be evaluated for a "no
parking" sign?
