Sometimes a description is simply factual - not racist.
The person who posted the initial warning has enough of a history of posting in a
concerned, neighborly fashion that I interpret his post as informative. Even if I had not
observed his past behavior I would not have instantly questioned his manner of description
in a way that implied bigotry. That is presumptuous and unproductive. Conveying
potentially important information quickly is part of the reason for having these boards.
Publicly questioning someones motives based on the description they used is not going to
encourage an atmosphere of cooperation or helpfulness.

Thanks for your thoughtful response, Julia. You have a great night, too! Bridgette

I'm afraid that I don't really pay much attention to any description beyond the
gender of the person involved and location of incidents (hadn't even read all of the
initial post until you drew attention to it), so I really couldn't give you
percentages. Maybe it would be smart for me to start reading it all!
Have a great night!

How many emails about unknown white folks going about business in our neighborhood do we

How interesting that you take that interpretation; here I was thinking visual descriptors
would help in identifying anyone unknown going about business in the neighborhood, but
what do I know?

Hello neighbors, Why is it frightening for a tall Black man to knock on someone's
door? In the past, I've been a volunteer canvasser going door to door for a variety
of causes. I think it's fabulous when people answer the door and dialogue for a minute
or two about an issue. I've also quickly told knockers that I'm not interested in
whatever it is they wish to talk about, ask for, or sell.
People chosing to do what makes them feel safe is important. But, it concerns me that a
good number of our emails are about people of color deemed suspect - because they are
people of color. In my mind, that is very different than witnessing a wrongdoing and
describing what one sees.

Anybody else have a knock on the door this early

He stayed on the porch for a while and eventually
walked away north on
Marlborough while looking back. Anyone else?
