Please help spread the word among neighbors that the city will *not* pick up
any construction debris related to the tornado, so that stuff shouldn't be
on the curb or sidewalk at all. They city is picking up yard waste only.
Folks will have to make their own arrangements to get construction debris to
one of the county landfills, but the good news is that they're waiving fees
for now. Here's a link to a list of those landfills:

As I walk my dog around the neighborhood, I notice
that most folks are
doing their best to keep the actual sidewalks clear. There is, in many
places, debris piled up between the sidewalk and road, where the city
suggests stuff to be picked up is put. Those that have just not done
anything at all are probably not receiving ( or at any rate reading) these
e-mails.
I appreciate the concern for the kids (I've told mine not to wear
flip-flops around here), but for some families, it's been a truly
overwhelming few weeks. We're doing the best we can. Have patience.
In the mean-time, if anyone has time, contacting the city about the few
houses on which nothing at all has been done would probably be constructive.
Thanks to Nichole for the info on reporting streetlights-

Subject: [Lockwood] Debris on sidewalks near Powell ES
Neighbors,
I am not exactly sure what the City's policy regarding the
tornado-related
debris placed on the sidewalk is, but it is making Powell
Elementary students' walk to school downright treacherous.
If parking a vehicle on the sidewalk is illegal…
The debris is piled on the sidewalks along Marlborough and N King
Charles, forcing
students to walk in the middle of 35 mph streets.
Is there any way this area can be made a clean-up
priority considering
the number of student walkers that must take to the street in
order to get
to school and back every day?
In the meantime let your concern be heard and please vote:

Many thanks to the Bowens for posting this and sharing.
Best, Vanessa
