Good afternoon! The earlier part of last I was in the Kroger store on New Bern Ave. and we some of the employees and myself started a conversation on starting a Community owned and operated store only a few of these employees have other places to go and were very interested in this idea and there were a couple of the Dept. Managers in this conversation. After speaking with them I told them I would bring this to the COR round table, but our COR liasion 1st Mr. Weeks and to our community as well I know this may have been suggested and even tried, but it wasn't who we have now that may want to be involved. The ECAC meeting for January has been moved to January 28th instead of our usual day the 3rd Monday due to MLK Holiday so please if able to or interested in the above idea come out and put your suggestion/comment in the box for us to get working on it in the early part of 2013 thank you!

Subject: [upha-discussion] Fwd: It's Official - WE HAVE A PARK!!!
Hi folks,
There was a lease signing ceremony today to make Dorothea Dix Park official. It was symbolic that the ceremony took place in the Senate chambers of the 1840’s State Capitol. It’s been a long 9 year journey but because of your support and persistence, today was a great day for NC.
For our future generations symbolized by Claire (below), today we did something very, very special.
Thank you …

Mayor and Governor Sign Dix Lease
Gov. Bev Perdue and Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane today formally signed documents leasing the state-owned Dorothea Dix property to the City of Raleigh for use as a destination park.
The lease follows the Dec. 4, approval by the North Carolina Council of State allowing for the creation of a city-maintained park on the 325-acre Dix property. The agreement will also generate revenue for the state. Under terms of the lease, the state will receive annual payments from the city. The state will still own the land at the conclusion of the 75 year lease. The effective date of the lease is Dec. 31, 2012.
The lease agreement will move the project another step closer to reality.
"Discussion and deliberation about the Dix property has taken place for years. It’s great that we can now continue moving forward," said Gov. Bev Perdue. "The plan is the most appropriate way of preserving this open space as a park, while at the same time providing revenue to the state."
"I am very happy the City of Raleigh and the State can partner in this way to provide such a great opportunity for our citizens.” said Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane. "The Dix property as a destination park is a wonderful addition to our city and state’s quality of life amenities."
==============
PS And while not everyone may be pleased, let’s hope upon reflection we will all be able to work together to create a great destination park for future generations and our state … http://triangle.news14.com/content/top_stories/679051/gov--perdue--raleigh-…
“It is not a done deal with the North Carolina General Assembly. There are any number of things the General Assembly could do to change the deal. Cities are a creature of the state. This is still state property,” said Rep. Nelson Dollar, a Wake County (Cary) Republican.

Subject: [Belvidere-Woodcrest] Holiday Recycling Information
RALEIGH, N.C. — From wrapping paper, bows and boxes to the Christmas
tree, Raleigh residents will accumulate an extra 750 tons of holiday
trash this week.
Linda Leighton of Raleigh's solid waste services department hopes
people will consider an alternative to the landfill for the excess.
Most holiday garbage is safe for curbside recycling. The city will
recycle most wrapping paper, but not foil, tissue paper, or ribbon.
"Keep those ribbons and bows and reuse them for next year," Leighton suggested.
Cardboard boxes can be recycled. Put them out for curbside pickup or
save them for a second use.
Even the Christmas tree can have a second life. The city will collect
your tree at the curb and recycle it into mulch.
"Please remove everything that's non-organic from the trees," Leighton
asked. "That means from head to toe. The stand all the way up to the
star on the top."
She suggested ways to ring in the new year with a green resolution as
well. "Everybody can do one little thing."
"Show folks where the recycle bin is and where the compost pail is for
the excess food," she suggested for party hosts.
"We want residents to think about waste reduction. Waste reduction is
much more important than recycling."

Hey folks,
It seems a number of us have fallen victim to car break-in recently. There have been a number of posts on local discussion groups, and I myself had my car rummaged through while away on a business trip. My car was in my driveway. Be on the lookout for suspicious behavior around people's vehicles. Don't keep valuables in your car. Be sure to lock you car whether it's in your driveway or on the street.
Regards,Matt LearyChairperson, LPCW
