The initial public workshop for traffic calming on Milburnie from N.
Raleigh Blvd to Chatham Ln will be held on Monday, August 13th at
Roberts Community Center, 1300 East Martin St. beginning at 7:00pm.
Hey neighbors,
The weather may hold up for us yet. http://www.weather.com/weather/weekend/Raleigh+NC+USNC0558:1:US
I hope everyone can make it to the Grill 'n Chill tomorrow. Info below.
The Grill ‘n Chill is going to be a low key potluck among neighbors. Some of our gracious neighbors have offered to lend their grills to the effort, and another neighbor is bringing cornhole and volleyball. Thank you!
We need some volunteers to help by bringing the last few items on the Grill ‘n Chill Items List below. We also need volunteers to help out with cleanup. Don’t be shy. Just reply all and put your name below one of the items.
Most everything else is “bring your own”. Bring items to grill and/or side items. Sharing is encouraged but not mandatory. Bring what you want to eat and drink. We’ll have some coolers and, of course, the grills. If you want to bring stuff to share, give a shout out to this email and let people know. Just in case we end up with 200 hotdogs or something…J
Let’s also try to bring our own dishes and utensils. The less we through in the garbage, the easier cleanup will be.
One last note. We should remember this is a City park, so please leave the booze and guns at home J This is a kid friendly event. All neighbors are welcome to this area get together. If you have a suggestion or idea, please reply to the email. Thanks. I don't know if anyone saw today, but our elderly neighbor got robbed. She is almost 70 years old and deaf, lives alone with no family to care for her, and someone knocked on her door, knocked her down and stole her keys, wallet, money, checks, everything. This was in the middle of the day...around noon.
Her neighbors, Carol and KC, have taken it upon themselves to help her....realizing she has no one looking after her. They have called Meals on Wheels, the SS office, her bank, etc. This woman needs our help. Her name is Ellen, she's very shy and a recluse (for obvious reasons) and is slow to trust, but she needs our help. Her house is a bit in disarray, she doesn't have much food, her phone for the deaf doesn't seem to be working. Their pastor is changing the locks on her door tonight.
She signs ok, not sure if her reading is great.
Carol and KC live at 2476 Milburnie Rd, Ellen lives directly next door, to the right (looking from the road). They are stepping up to make sure she is safe and taken care of since she has no one.
It would be very nice if we could have more officers on the street near her house, in the day time as well as the night....they robbed her in broad daylight.
Also, Matt, could you please add Carol Baez to the community watch email list, she asked me to have you put her on. She doesn't have internet, but she gets email on her phone. She would like to know the dates of the community watch meetings as well. Her email is bronxlatina1966(a)yahoo.com
Miss Ellen is the epitome of what community is all about....she needs our help and support and protection.

Quixote, a long-haired, medium-sized cream/white-haired dog (pic attached),
got out from the fence during the fireworks yesterday, from the 100 block

about coming to strangers but very friendly. If you see him, please cal

Hey neighbors,
We'll be having an organizing meeting tomorrow night, July 2, at 7:00. We'll meet at my place, 500 N. King Charles Rd. I've received a little feedback from people. One idea for dividing up the list of stuff to bring is by using people's last names. So the people with last names ending in A-F would bring on type of item, G-L would bring something else... We can talk about this more tomorrow night. After the meeting tomorrow, we'll send out an update to the group with the gameplan. Another idea I received was that everyone bring their own plates and silver to reduce the amount of trash we generate. All good ideas. Let's sort them out tomorrow night. I look forward to seeing you.
Sorry for the short notice. If you can't make it tomorrow night and want to help organize, shoot me an email. Thanks.

Hi All,
At the June ECAC meeting, representatives from the City of Raleigh
Stormwater Utility (Public Works Department) presented on stream
restoration work that will commence this fall in our area. The project
will take ~2-years to complete and will include stream reaches that
run along Bertie and Locke in the Longview Park subdivision. One
significant component to the project (download full plans here:
goo.gl/CiWyp) is the installation of a Gabion wall
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabion) near the intersection of Bertie
and Locke where the stream channel is confined by Bertie on one side
and Enloe's football field/ bleachers on the other.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Todd Rall
(Todd.Rall(a)raleighnc.gov) is the Senior Stormwater Engineer on the
project and he is maintaining a mailing list for project updates.
