Hi All,
I was burglarized in the exact same fashion on July 3rd. The crooks took
the exact same things, I'm convinced these are the same crooks. I did not
have a security system. Nothing has come of my case; no suspects; no items
found. That they have continued to rob our 'hood uncaught is really
depressing. :(

Thanks for the update Officer K. Yes, the break ins in this area are getting out of control. Please everyone call in ANYTHING suspicious no matter how small...even if the 911 operator is less than helpful, CALL IT IN. (we've had 911 operators seem very annoyed at us calling in suspicious activity...like nothing has happened, so don't bother calling).
We had a man knock on our door tonight at 8pm...our BACK door, in the dark. He said he had left a card earlier in the day about tree removal and wanted to catch us while we were home. I didn't open the door and told him to get lost....could have been totally innocent, but I don't like people coming to my back door when it's dark out. He was driving a large black pickup truck....seemed to be a middle aged light skin black male, bald. It looked like there may have been someone in the passenger seat of the truck.
Apologies for cross posting...if you haven't seen these already, please
review trailing messages.

All,
Our burglary suppression team was out there all morning so please
continue to call in all suspicious persons and vehicles and encourage your

Mark,
I'm so sorry that happened. I hope they catch them.
To all - There have been a lot of burglaries lately (or at least more than
I've been aware of before). Do we know if the houses being targeted have
security systems? I was just wondering if thieves were targeting homes that
didn't have them or if they were bypassing or just ignoring them.

Also, I'm assuming you called the police? They need to know about the crime that's been picking up in Longview. This is the 3rd or 4th breakin in the area in about 6 weeks. Officer K, Matt, can we pass this along? Unmarked white van, anyone see it?
Another break-in. This time they took everything.
Ugh. See below.

Hi Ginger,
It's Allisa, on Derby Drive. Our neighbor Sinny's house got broken into
today. They went in through the bathroom window. They took everything, so
he cannot email anyone, but wants the group to know to be on alert. Will
you please email everyone? I'm not on the group emails...
Thank you,
Allisa

Hi All,
I just wanted to alert everyone to a theft that occurred to one of my
neighbors in the 2300 block of Stevens Rd last night. A GPS unit was
taken from a car between 7-11pm. The car was unlocked, but parked
right next to the house (not on the street). The GPS unit was not
visible (stored in a compartment in the console) and other contents of
the car were searched for valuables. I'm speculating, but it could be
possible that the perpetrator(s) were opportunistically checking cars
to see if they were unlocked. The theft has been reported to RPD.
If anyone saw anything or experienced a similar theft last night,
please report it.
Thanks.

Hey RCAC folks!
I just found out about a free workshop the city is conducting this
Saturday to train citizens to help monitor the health of our city's
streams. Thought the registration deadline has passed, Mac Smith told me
that the class is only half-full at the moment.
You might want to share this with your members in case others are
interested in this opportunity. Have them contact Mac Smith with the
city's Stormwater Utility dept at 919.996.4008 or mac.smith(a)raleighnc.gov

Stream Monitoring Workshop
Event posted Jul. 25, 2012 - 1:58 pm
Calling all volunteers interested in the Stream Monitoring Program!
Are you interested in the health of your neighborhood stream? This
volunteer program may be just for you!
Raleigh residents have been developing a keen interest in the water
quality of their local neighborhood streams. Many things (particularly
the impact of living in urbanized areas) can have an impact on water
quality, affecting a stream's health.
The Stream Monitoring Program, funded by the Stormwater Utility,
empowers residents to monitor a stream of their choice for 1 year.
Volunteers are provided with monitoring equipment to perform benthic
macro invertebrate surveys and analyze chemical parameters in the water.
After each monitoring date, volunteer groups send in their recorded data
to Raleigh Stormwater Utility staff. Data is then posted to the City of
Raleigh website so volunteer groups can compare data with other groups
across Raleigh.
Before joining the Stream Monitoring Program, volunteers must attend an
orientation workshop to learn the sampling techniques that must be used
by all groups to keep data collection consistent and reliable.
Only 15 [MT: now just 7] seats are available for the upcoming
orientation workshop on August 25. Pre-registration is required. Contact
Mac Smith to register today! Registration closes on Friday, August 17.
