Hi everyone and sorry for this short notice,
HB150 has sailed thru committee and is likely to be voted on in the House on Tuesday.
This is the bill that will take away the ability of the city to have any say on aesthetics in residential zoning.
There is also a part of the bill that states that the city cannot have any say on the interior placements of rooms.
This bill will have many affects on us.
With regards to the interior layout of rooms, this opens the door to infill that permits the construction of a house with multiple bedrooms and connected bathrooms and opens the door for the construction of boarding houses in single family neighborhoods.
It also take away the citizens ability to interact with the city and developers when new construction is being build adjacent to their neighborhoods.
We have just spent years on the development of our UDO and we did it with YOUR input.
This legislature is telling us that citizen input about the character of their community is not important.
We have asked the General Assembly to work with us (The Wake County Mayors and the Metropolitan Mayors Coalition) to come up with some compromise language that will allow us to continue to work with our citizens to develop out cities.
PLEASE, contact the members of the Wake Delegation and let them know that you do not want to see this bill rushed thru without further conversation with the cities.
This bill was introduced by Nelson Dollar, from the Wake County Delegation.
The Wake County Mayors have passed a resolution opposing the bill.
I have attached the Wake Delegation's contact information.
Thanks,
Nancy
There may be a press event Monday to address this at 5:30. I will contact you all as soon as I know more about this.

The Cancer Prevention Study-3 in Wake County is being held from March 12-March 22 at 10 convenient locations across Wake County . Those eligible to participate must be: between the ages of 30-65 (or turning 30 within six months of enrollment), Have never been diagnosed with cancer (excluding baso/squamous skin cancer) and are willing to complete follow up surveys every 4-5 years either by postcard or email. This follow time frame will occur over the net 20-30 years.
The first step to participate in the study is by visiting the following website: www.cps3wakecounty.orgto schedule an appointment. (under 2 mins)
Next your appointment will be confirmed via email, and then you will be asked to complete a baseline survey before your enrollment. (approx. 25 mins)
On the day of enrollment, you will check in at registration, complete a 5 minute survey, have your waist measured in Centimeters, and then a Quest Diagnostic Phlebotomist will draw 7 teaspoons of blood.
Attached are several promotional materials for CPS-3 that have been successful in spreading the word on this study. I would be able to supply your facility and any community affiliates with the necessary flyers for distribution. I am also available to present this material to your staff and answer and questions they may have regarding the study. We have also found Facebook and Twitter to be very effective in reaching large groups of people.

Hey neighbors,
I hope this email finds you all well. I will keep this brief and to the point. The next LPCW meeting is coming up in a little more than a week. We will touch base on the restoration process under way along Locke, talk about recent crime activity in the area and follow up on the initiatives we started at the end of 2012. I hope you can all make it out to the meeting.
Please note there has been a slight uptick in burglaries in the area. Be on the lookout for suspicious activity and don't hesitate to call it in to the Police. That's what they're here for.
