NeighborWoods Program has
Tree-Mendous Plans for the Fall
National NeighborWoods® Month is the annual
campaign to plant and care for community trees during the
month of
October. Thousands of volunteers all across the country take
action to
make their communities greener
and healthier by planting and caring for trees.The City of Raleigh NeighborWoods Program
is
celebrating by planting hundreds of trees throughout our
Raleigh community this Fall. Volunteer groups will
participate in tree planting events at Chavis Park, the
Johns Pointe Neighborhood, and two projects along the Walnut
Creek Greenway. Interested
in volunteering with our NeighborWoods program? Become an
advocate for
Raleigh's trees by maintaining and caring for new trees.

be a Tree Steward! Downtown Raleigh Gets Spruced
UpSeptember was a busy month for Downtown
Raleigh. The Ray Price Bike Fest
and the International Bluegrass Festival welcomed thousands
of visitors
to our City. In preparation for these special events,
volunteers from
Syngenta, Southwest Airlines, and C3 Church assisted with
landscaping
and mulching projects to spruce up downtown. With the help
of nearly 30
volunteers, we were able to plant over 700 plants and mulch
over 60
yards to help beautify Downtown Raleigh. Thanks to these
awesome
individuals for donating their time, talents, and
resources!Halloween Festivities Goblins, Witches, and Ghosts! Oh My! Our
Recreation and Resources Divisions are gearing up for a
month of spooktacular Halloween festivities. From Pumpkin
Fests, Halloween Dances, Fall Carnivals and a Haunted
Trolley, we need your help to make this Halloween a monster
smash! If you are interested in volunteering for one of our
Halloween events, check out the volunteer opportunities
section to register today!You Have What It Takes: Become
a Youth Basketball CoachIt's time to lace up your sneakers and pull
out your whistles and clipboards. Youth Fall Basketball
begins this month, and we need volunteer coaches for our
District and City-Wide leagues. If you are interested in
this opportunity and in making a difference in our
participants’
lives now is your chance! We have several opportunities for
coaching boys or girls between the ages of 5-18. For more
information on becoming a basketball coach, contact our Athletic Program.October V.I.Ps
Our volunteers
in
parks (VIPs) charged full steam ahead into volunteer
projects this past month. From mulching and adding surfacing
to playgrounds to historic festivals, our volunteers made a
huge impact on the Raleigh community. During the month
of September, the department had 546 individuals
volunteer 1,256 hours of their time at our city parks and
special events. A big thanks to each of you for contributing
your time, talents, and resources to the Raleigh Parks,
Recreation and Cultural Resources Department!
