The technology referenced on NPR has been discussed by Officer Krysko at past CAC meetings: http://www.shotspotter.com/

Funding options do exist, but the true cost of one of these systems can by significant (I'm guessing): http://www.shotspotter.com/resources/policing-funding-faq

I heard a piece on UNC NPR re: triangulating technology that tells police what has been shot (firecrackers, guns, assault weapons) and where - to within 8 yards.  This is in Fayetteville because of a federal grant - can Raleigh get similar technology even without the Fed. grants?

It's sometimes a horrible world that we live in but it's what we've got and we need to be able to cope as best as can be.  If we're informed, we can cope.
