Community Services worked on a grant from another nearby neighborhood (Lockwood) in which they were able to acquire the signs.  You all need to team up and work with Matt on this if you all decide to pursue the signs.  I can assist with details on the grant, but here is a link to our page:

Read over this and if you have questions, please feel free to contact me.

Hey folks,

A few of us managed to eek out a meeting last night in the park before the storms rolled in. The main points of interest last night involved the National Night Out event planning. We will be holding the 2nd Annual Culpepper Grill 'n Chill in support of the National Night Out. The National Night Out supports fostering a sense of community through the gathering of its members, and that's the same reason why we started the Culpepper Grill 'n Chill. So, it makes sense to put the two together. I hope everyone will take this opportunity to come out to Culpepper Park to spend time with your neighbors. Everybody had a blast last year, so this year is sure to be great as well. This will be a family friendly event, but sorry, no pets.

Here are the event details:

-          Name: 2nd Annual Culpepper Grill 'n Chill in Support of the Nation Night Out

-          Date: Tuesday, August 6, 2013 6:00 PM, Setup starting at 5:30

-          Planning meeting: My house (500 N. King Charles Rd.) July 9, 7:00 PM

You are probably reading this thinking, "How can I help with the Grill 'n Chill?"

Well, that's an easy question to answer. There are a variety of ways that you can help. Here are a few:

  • Come out that night to support the event
  • Tell your neighbor about the event
  • Bring any of the items on the list below or suggest other items that should be on the list
  • Help at the planning meeting on July 9
  • Help with the setup/cleanup

Here is the list of items for the event. If there is a name next to it, then we have a volunteer. If not, jump in there and help out the neighborhood by bringing that item to the party. If you want to volunteer for items not listed, just let me know.

Grill ‘n Chill Items List

  • Grill – Emrys and Paula

Hey folks,

The weather may yet hold for the outdoor meeting in the park tonight. Bring a chair, bug spray and your ideas for the National Night Out on August 6. What do we want to do as a neighborhood? Let's talk about it tonight at 7:00 in the Culpepper Park. See the email below for details.

Thank you,

Matt

Hey neighbors,

I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather. I thought I'd send out an update to the group since it has been a little while since my last one. I apologize for the delay since my last communication. In the meantime I married my lovely fiancé, went on my honeymoon, had a death in the family and went on several business trips around the country. So, I've been a little busy even if my communications to the group didn't reflect that.

First things first, our next Community Watch meeting will be next Wednesday, June 26 at 7:00 PM. We're going to pick up on the suggestion from our last meeting to meet outside to enjoy the nice weather. We'll meet at the Culpepper Park. Bring a chair and bug spray. If you want to bring refreshments, please do. If the weather is foul, the rain date will be Thursday, June 27 at 7:00 PM. If we get rained out that day as well, I'll send another email to the group with another date.

Next, I've signed up our group to participate in the National Night Out event on August 6, 2013, like we discussed in our last meeting. I'll bring information on this event to the meeting on the 26th, but the website where you can read about the event is www.natw.org. We'll brainstorm ideas for activities as part of the National Night Out at the next meeting.

The traffic calming effort on King Charles has taken its next step forward. White paint markings have been placed on the street and curb to delineate the location of traffic calming treatment and signs. Please take a chance to look at them when you have a chance. Comments can be sent to ntmp@raleighnc.gov or 919-996-4066. Contact name: Thomas Fiorello

Lastly, did you all do your homework from the last meeting? Your homework was to go out and look at your street lights to note any that are burned out, faulty or find locations where a light should be added. Did you all do that? If not, the weather is just fine to go for a little walk in the evenings. Take a friend or neighbor if you prefer not to walk alone after dark. Please bring your homework to the next meeting. Be sure to write down the pole numbers of associated with any issues you may find as we'll need to pass along this information to Duke Energy for review. Thanks again to Emrys for providing the template for this type of project.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you on the 26th.

Kind regards,

Matt Leary
