Folks, this is a good reminder to strengthen your door hardware if youhaven't already. It's easy and takes about five minutes!
The typical screws used for attaching a lock's strikeplate to the doorframe are less than 3/4" long. This makes the door easy to kick in asthese screws easily fail.
Replacing these with #10 wood screws that are 2" to 3" long willsignificantly strengthen your doors. The longer screws will anchor thestrikeplate into the stud behind the door frame and not just the doorframe itself. Anyone kicking in the door better have an iron heel!MarkEast CAC
Hi All,I was burglarized in the exact same fashion on July 3rd. The crooks took the exact same things, I'm convinced these are the same crooks. I did not have a security system. Nothing has come of my case; no suspects; no items found. That they have continued to rob our 'hood uncaught is really depressing. :(Angie Bagley605 Culpepper LaneOn Fri, Aug 31, 2012 at 11:58 AM, <longview-park-community-watch@googlegroups.com> wrote:

Thanks for the update Officer K. Yes, the break ins in this area are getting out of control. Please everyone call in ANYTHING suspicious no matter how small...even if the 911 operator is less than helpful, CALL IT IN. (we've had 911 operators seem very annoyed at us calling in suspicious activity...like nothing has happened, so don't bother calling).
We had a man knock on our door tonight at 8pm...our BACK door, in the dark. He said he had left a card earlier in the day about tree removal and wanted to catch us while we were home. I didn't open the door and told him to get lost....could have been totally innocent, but I don't like people coming to my back door when it's dark out. He was driving a large black pickup truck....seemed to be a middle aged light skin black male, bald. It looked like there may have been someone in the passenger seat of the truck.

It is unfortunate about your break-in this is the 5th one I've heard about

security system, last night or should I say earlier this morning around
1:30am-2:00am I heard a faint sound like a car alarm I found out later
today it was my neighbor right across the street someone tried to break in
his van we are experiencing a fluctuation of break-ins in Oakwood area and
it is moving or should I say has moved East and they seem to be random
automobiles and houses alike. Please be on the look-out these thieves are
desperate and the time of day does not matter.

Mark,
I'm so sorry that happened. I hope they catch them.
To all - There have been a lot of burglaries lately (or at least more than
I've been aware of before). Do we know if the houses being targeted have
security systems? I was just wondering if thieves were targeting homes that
didn't have them or if they were bypassing or just ignoring them.
Thanks

Also, I'm assuming you called the police? They need to know about the crime that's been picking up in Longview. This is the 3rd or 4th breakin in the area in about 6 weeks. Officer K, Matt, can we pass this along? Unmarked white van, anyone see it?
