Hi everyone and sorry for this short notice,
HB150 has sailed thru committee and is likely to be voted on in the House on Tuesday.
This is the bill that will take away the
ability of the city to have any say on aesthetics in residential zoning.
There is also a part of the bill that states that the city cannot have any say on the interior placements of rooms.
This bill will have many affects on us.
With regards to the interior layout of rooms, this opens the door to infill that permits the construction of a house with multiple bedrooms and connected bathrooms and opens the door for the construction of boarding houses in single family neighborhoods.
It also take away the citizens ability to interact with the city and developers when new construction is being build adjacent to their neighborhoods.
We have just spent years on the development of our UDO and we did it with YOUR input.
This legislature is telling us that citizen input about the character of their community is not important.
We have asked the General Assembly to work with us (The Wake County Mayors and the Metropolitan
Mayors Coalition) to come up with some compromise language that will allow us to continue to work with our citizens to develop out cities.
PLEASE, contact the members of the Wake Delegation and let them know that you do not want to see this bill rushed thru without further conversation with the cities.
This bill was introduced by Nelson Dollar, from the Wake County Delegation.
The Wake County Mayors have passed a resolution opposing the bill.
I have attached the Wake Delegation's contact information.
Thanks,
Nancy
There may be a press event Monday to address this at 5:30. I will contact you all as soon as I know more about this.
