Opportunities
From Pumpkin Festivals and
Spooktacular Carnivals to Park Beautification projects, the
Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department
has several fun volunteer opportunities this Fall. For more
information and to register, click on the volunteer events
below.
Spooktacular
Volunteers are needed at Green Road Community
Center each Friday afternoon September 26 thru October 24
from 3pm-6pm. You will be able to assist with planning and
organizing games, arts and crafts projects, and event
marketing. Volunteers will also be needed on Monday, October
27 from 2pm-9pm to assist with Spooktacular's onsite
registration, event set up/clean up, leading and
facilitating games/activities, and distributing door prizes
and candy. You must be at least 13 years of age to
volunteer.
Festival in
Motion
The Festival in Motion at Walnut Creek
Wetland Center creates a lively event that brings together
lots of people for free, community fun in a naturally
beautiful area of our city. If you like to get out in
nature and experience the inner workings of a community
event, we'd love your help! Sign-up today to be a
Volunteer at the Festival in Motion on Saturday,
September 27.
Fall
Festival
Join us for a Fall Festival at Chavis Community
Center on Thursday, October 16th. This special event is
an evening filled with scary, fun carnival games, face
painting, arts and crafts activities, and treats. Volunteers
are needed to assist with set-up of activities, supervise
activities, and break down and clean up after event. You
must be at least 18 years of age to volunteer.
Pumpkin
Fest
Celebrate Fall and pumpkins at our annual
Pumpkin Fest at Barwell Road Community Center. At this
year's festival, pumpkins will come alive through your
favorite carnival games, crafts, and more. Event is for
children ages 10 and younger. Volunteers are needed to
assist with event set up/clean up, running games and
activities, and interacting with children. You must be at
least 14 years of age to volunteer.
Tony Hawk's Get Rad for
Ray
Tony Hawk's Get Rad for Ray fundraiser
event will be held on Saturday, October 18 at Marsh Creek
Skate Park. Volunteers will be needed to assist with
registering participants for the skateboarding clinic, and
providing directions and other information to participants.
As a volunteer, you will NOT
be guaranteed to meet Tony Hawk. All
volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
Eastgate
Fun Day
Join us for the Eastgate Fun Day on Saturday,
October 18 from 12pm-4pm! Volunteers are needed
to assist with this fun filled neighborhood festival
that helps bring neighbors together for an afternoon of fun
and fellowship. Duties include set up/clean up, assisting
with arts/crafts and games, and other festival logistics.
You must be at least 16 years of age to
volunteer.
Boo
Bash
This year's Boo Bash will be held on
Friday, October 24 at Lake Lynn Community Center. This
special event will include ghastling games,
spooktacular activties, fang-tastic crafts,
trunk-or-treating, and a spooky bus featuring haunted
stories. Kids of all ages are invited to this ex-FEAR-ience.
Volunteers are needed to hand out candy, lead games, assist
with the spooky bus, trunk or treats, and arts/crafts. You
must be at least 16 years old to volunteer.
Fallon Park
Beautification
Join us on Saturday, October 25 from 9am-12pm
for a park clean-up at Fallon Park. The park clean up will
include removal of invasives and litter pick up. To
participate, you must wear loose, comfortable clothing and
closed toed shoes. A hat and sunglasses is also recommended.
Parks staff will provide gloves and all tools/supplies for
project. Clean up will take place RAIN or SHINE. Volunteers
must be at least 14 years of age.
Haunted Mordecai
Festival
The Haunted Mordecai Festival will take place
at Mordecai Historic Park on Saturday, October 25. This
event is free and family-friendly. We have crafts, games,
music, a bounce house, face painting, and costume contests
on our lawn at Mordecai Historic Park. Volunteers will be
needed to assist with crafts, games, greeting patrons, and
other duties. You must be at least 16 years old to
volunteer.
Specialized Recreation
Halloween Dance
The Specialized Recreation Halloween Dance will
take place on Saturday, October 25 at Green Road Community
Center from 5:30-10:00pm. This fun-filled evening is
for individuals with disabilities to show off their costumes
and dance. We are seeking 75 teen volunteers to assist with
event set up and clean up, assisting, dancing, and
interacting with participants. You must be in
high school to volunteer.
Twick or Tweat
Calling all volunteers!!! We need your help
with this year's Twick or Tweak Halloween Carnival. This
special event will take place on Monday, October 27 at
Laurel Hills Community Center. Volunteers are needed to
assist with event set up/clean up, and carnival style game
stations. You must be at least 14 years old.
Haunted
Halloween
Join us at Peach Road Neighborhood Center on
Halloween for the spookiest night of the year! Witches,
ghosts, goblins and everyone else are welcome to participate
in our child-friendly Halloween event with games and
activities, prizes and more. Volunteers will be needed to
assist with event set up/clean up, run activities such as
Candy Pong, face painting, haunted obstacle and other games,
and pass out candy. You must be at least 14 years of age to
volunteer.
Youth
Fall Basketball Coach
The Athletics Program
is looking for individuals interested in being a volunteer
youth coach for the upcoming winter season. Anyone that is
interested in this opportunity and in making a difference in
our participants’ lives now is your chance! Practices
are a 1-2 day commitment before games begin, and once a week
once games begin. Games can be one-two times a week and will
be played at the community centers. You must be at least 18
years old to volunteer.
Youth Football Chain
Crew
Volunteers will assist with practices/games and
other assigned duties by site directors. All volunteers
are required to complete a volunteer application and pass a
background check before volunteering. Volunteers must be 16
years or older to participate.
Cemetery Watch
Program
Volunteers are needed to periodically walk
through the cemetery, report vandalism and suspicious
activity and pick up litter. To volunteer you must be at
least 18 years of age. This volunteer opportunity is
ongoing and flexible schedules are available for
volunteers.
