SCHOOL BOARD STUDENT ASSIGNMENT
POLICY
What's being decided?
The enrollment proposal will
address assignments for the 2015-16 school year. Three new
schools (Abbotts Creek Elementary,
Scotts Ridge Elementary, and Apex-Friendship High
School) will be opening to
relieve overcrowding at other schools.. In addition, the
proposal will also:
Define
proximate base attendance areas for Durant ES, East
Garner ES, Washington ES, Durant MS, Lufkin
MS
Align
elementary and middle school base calendars
at Baucom ES, Laurel Park ES, Oak Grove ES, Olive
Chapel ES, Turner Creek ES
Improve
utilization for some overcrowded and under enrolled
schools: Brentwood ES, Fox Road ES, Hunter ES, Richland
Creek ES, Turner Creek ES, Wake
Forest MS, Apex HS, Enloe HS, Heritage HS, Holly Springs HS,
Panther Creek HS, Southeast Raleigh HS, Wake Forest
HS
Eliminate
inefficient calendar options
Extend the
grandfathering provisions to rising sophomores in AOIT at
Apex HS
Change
some calendar options to more proximate
schools
Currently,
draft three of the
plan affects 2,734 students, or less than two percent of the
student population. As new schools funded by
the 2013 School Construction Bond are built to open in
future school years, the plan will be amended.
Community input results in changes
to the proposal
According
to Student Assignment Staff, "from Draft
1 to Draft 3, almost
50 errors
have been corrected or adjustments have been made based on
community feedback. The School
Board will continue to receive and monitor input via its
online Mindmixer forum.
