Folks,
I just came back from Chavis Community Center: FEMA's Disaster Relief
Center is NOW OPEN! There was no waiting when I was there, either.
Before they can help you, you NEED TO PREREGISTER either online at
http://www.disasterassistance.gov or by phone at 800-621-3362. If you
don't preregister first, the very first thing you do when you get to
Chavis is be sent to a bank of telephones where you will call the above
FEMA number and register.
Please pass on to all of our neighbors affected by the storm.
Regards,
Mark Turner

Once again, the information on the N.C. Emergency Management's Disaster
Recovery Center is changing. It will still be held at Chavis Community
Center but it will NOT OPEN TODAY. It will instead open at 0800 Saturday
morning.
I was just told that while people COULD come today, there might be a lot
of waiting as NCEM/FEMA are not completely set up yet.
Before going to a center, people with storm losses should register with
FEMA online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-FEMA
(3362). CITIZENS WILL SAVE A LOT OF TIME if they arrive at the center
with a "preregistration number" in hand!
Chavis Community Center is located at 505 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in
Southeast Raleigh.

NC Emergency Management has opened a Disaster Recovery Center at 3000
Falstaff Drive (behind WakeMed) this morning for storm victims.
This news has NOT made it into any news media and I'm concerned that
folks in Raleigh think they have to drive to Fayetteville to get help.
PLEASE let everyone know this information so that people can get
assistance. Thanks!

To help you become more informed about the new development regulations (UDO)
proposed for the City of Raleigh, the open houses
<http://raleighudo.com/content/udo-open-houses> are designed to give you
variety of educational opportunities, including:
. Large display boards highlighting major sections of the new
regulations
. Maps showing the current zoning for all areas of the City
. Charts comparing the difference between the current and proposed
zoning districts
. Results of test cases from recent CAC workshop
. Resource tables for the following.
o 2030 Comprehensive Plan
o New residential districts being proposed for the City
o Mixed use centers, an important new form of development proposed for the
City
o Mapping, a process that will convert the existing zoning districts to
the new zoning districts
o Various types of streets and building frontages
o New transition regulations to help protect residential areas
Approximately halfway through the open house, Code Studio, the lead
consultant writing the UDO, will make a presentation and then give you the
opportunity to ask questions.
These workshops are all about helping the City get the "right rules in the
right places" so the City can grow better, not just bigger. Details for the
3 open houses are available here
<http://raleighudo.com/content/udo-open-houses> .

Two (2) opportunities tomorrow and another on Thursday to learn more about
the new development regulations (UDO) proposed for the City of Raleigh. If
you attend, ask for information about infill compatibility standards and
transition standards between different uses. These are new regulations and
very important to residential neighborhoods.
Details about all the meetings are available here

Dear RCAC Members:
**Please vote for me to receive a scholarship to attend Netroots Nation.
<http://www.democracyforamerica.com/netroots_nation_scholarships/1216-linda-…>
The goal of the conference is to help increase involvement in public
life by:

> technology to influence the public debate. Through our annual
> convention and a series of regional salons held throughout the year,

If I get a chance to attend, I promise to share what I learn with the
RCAC and to put it to use strengthening the Glenwood CAC.
