Kim,
Great news (see below and attached)!
The Hillsborough CAC has nurtured this project from the beginning. I couldn't be more proud of the many Wedge Garden volunteers who made this happen, chief among them Shamsa Visone!

Subject: Wedge Community Garden at Alexander YMCA wins 1st prize & Grand Prize at national neighborhood conference!
I am delighted to report that I just received news from Shamsa Visone that the Wedge Community Garden at Alexander YMCA, a long favored project supported by members of the Hillsborough CAC, today won First prize and the Grand Prize at the annual NUSA national neighborhood conference, this year held in Houston. The awards were accompanied by monetary gifts of $500 and $1000.
Shamsa presented the case for the Wedge Garden at the NUSA Conference yesterday. She was accompanied to Houston by her husband, by Raleigh Community Services Director Dwayne Patterson, and by Sheila Lynch and Dan Bagley, also with Releigh Community Services.
Please see the attached picture of Shamsa (second from left) and the Raleigh contingent at the conference holding the award plaques.
Many thanks to the Alexander YMCA, to the many businesses such as Moonlight Pizza and Seaboard Ace Hardware, and to the members of the Hillsborough Citizens Advisory Council for their continuing support of the Wedge Garden. Most of all, congratulations to the scores of volunteers who give the Garden life!
