The Downtown Living Advocates (DLA) released a position paper on the high speed rail proposal this afternoon. Hopefully, DLA’s work will help you with your assessment of the different options. I encourage you to think globally about this issue, so we achieve the best possible outcome for the City of Raleigh. Sifting through all the information related to high speed, regional and local passenger rail systems and freight rail systems is a daunting task, but a project of this significance really deserves our attention. I hope you are able to attend the public hearing Monday evening. This road show should be an excellent learning experience for us all.

Monday, July 26th will be an important opportunity for residents to learn about the high-speed rail plans, and specifically the environmental assessment associated with the train pathways into Downtown Raleigh. The DLA Board has developed our organization's position on the various alternative train pathways, and will speaking at the hearing on Monday evening.
If you are unable to attend the meeting Monday, don't miss the DLA General Meeting Tuesday where we'll recap the events from the previous evening.
Highlights of DLA position statement on High Speed Train Pathway Alternatives Through Downtown Raleigh:
The DLA recommends:
• Downtown-wide Quiet Zones at all rail crossings
• Alternative transit alignment NC3, trains travel along the Norfolk Southern west side of Capital Boulevard
• Tunneling the tracks at Jones Street and parallel to Glenwood South, so as to permit Jones Street to remain open
