Let me throw this out for possible discussion at next week's meeting. We
have a number of neighbors in the East CAC who had no idea that the CAC
existed. We're working to get the word out through flyers and yard signs
but I've been unable to find a fitting description of what a CAC is or does.
So, let me ask the group: how do YOU describe your CAC to neighbors who
haven't heard of CACs before?

I have not looked at it in awhile, but I think the mission statment that community
services provided should be utilized by all of us rather than having 18 different ones.

This site contains information about the CACs. It was compiled during the
GREAT debate about the purpose and role of the CACs.
I thought this site contained a document about the history of the CACs, but
I don't see it listed. I think you will find the PowerPoint in the first
section and the Kreztmann report in the last section useful. In brief, the
CACs were established in the 1973-74 timeframe to educate citizens about
important issues affecting the City of Raleigh, to give citizens a voice in
City government and to have CAC leaders serve as an advisory group to the
City Council.

I'm attaching a one-page flyer that the NECAC used at a community fair to do
outreach. It might be helpful. We had community services translate it into
Spanish and printed that on the other side.

pitch" ... how would you describe CACs in one paragraph?
Or put another way, how would you "sell" a neighbor on the CAC in 30
seconds or less?

30 seconds: "The City Council has set up CACs in
every area of the City. They
are the official vehicle for citizens from a
neighborhood to communicate their
concerns to government. We let the City Council know what concerns and problems
citizens have, and we especially give them feedback on development and re-zoning
in our neighborhoods. We help you get your opinions across to our elected
officials"
I stress that official channel of communication bit. This is super
simplified and maybe you could quibble about exact accuracy, but it gets the
general point across.
