Hey folks,
Note that the CERTizens mailing list has some built-in anti-spam
measures. If you include the list in with a bunch of other addresses in
the TO or CC line, the mailserver will reject it. In other words, if you
want to email the list, you should do it separately and not tack it on
with other recipients.
Also, do not add the list to the BCC line as this will also cause the
message to get stuck.
There is a size limit that will also cause messages to get stuck. On
bigger lists I manage (400+ recipients) I don't tend to release these
because multiple megabytes being sent to hundreds of recipients can eat
up a lot of bandwidth (and unnecessarily fill up people's inboxes). On
this particular list, however, there are far fewer recipients so I will
release all larger-sized messages.
Other questions, let me know!
Cheers,
Mark
Hi All,
I'm not sure if all of us are on Larry Marks'(Wake Interfaith Disaster
Team) email list , so I'm forwarding this info to make sure you have it.
I registered for this activity and got "waitlisted". Apparently, this kind
of training is becoming popular, and that's a good thing.

Trauma is the leading cause of death in Americans under age 46
Life-threatening (traumatic) injuries require immediate action to stop
someone from dying. While the Nation’s emergency medical responders are
quick to arrive, any delay between injury and the initiation of care can
result in death. Those nearest to someone with life-threatening injuries
are best positioned to provide the first care, which should focus on the
most essential actions, including moving someone away from ongoing danger,
stopping life-threatening bleeding, positioning the injured so they can
breathe, keeping them warm, and providing comfort. This course is designed
to educate the public about the important role it plays in providing these
potentially life-saving interventions prior to the arrival of emergency
services.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:preparedness

• Communicate with 9-1-1 operators effectively.
• Act to protect the injured from further harm.
• Position the injured.

Greetings Central Raleigh CERT Team!
We know that community preparedness and resiliency are a part of your
mission and we would like to invite your CERT Team to partner with the
American Red Cross to Sound the Alarm. On Saturday, May 5 in Raleigh, we
are inviting your team to join us to install free smoke alarms and educate
homeowners on fire safety tips. On average, seven people die every day from
a home fire, but your team can help protect families against these
tragedies by joining the campaign in Raleigh. I know this is not in your
county but we have hosted smaller events in your backyard and plan to
return in the future for more events. We would love to partner with your
group to make homes safer so please take a moment to review the information
and reach out with questions!
This will be a rain or shine event so make sure to be prepared for spring
showers.* Breakfast and lunch will be provided*, in addition to Red Cross
Sound the Alarm T-shirts for all volunteers! You will find event
information below and in the attached flyer. We encourage your team to
wear their branded t-shirts for the community to see.
*May 5: Sound the Alarm Positions (training will take place on site the
morning of the event): *
-Installers: Install smoke alarms
-Educators: Provide fire prevention materials to families
during installation
-Scribes: Complete questionnaire on site with the
family

Well, that didn't work. I sent an order to FEMA for some Pet Preparedness
brochures and they don't have any, won't put me on a backorder list and
can't say whether they'll get any in time for National Pet Preparedness
Month, which is June.
Does anyone have any in their boxes of brochures that we ordered a few
years ago?I only have about 30 or so of these.
For those not on previous emails, we are going to try to do a public
education event in June at Pet Supplies Plus.
We can download the brochure from the web site and print it, but we will
need to pay for it. Let's see first if anyone has any of these on hand and
then we'll figure out what to do.
Thanks, Kim
Thanks Samantha,
Yes, please add me to the NC CERT email list. And I'll copy you on Central
Raleigh CERT emails going forward.
Regarding 5/19, I have a Habitat for Humanity commitment. Please send info
about program manager's class in June.

Thanks for doing our meeting minutes, Pam. They look fine. And thanks for

other day is still awaiting moderator approval to go out! Must be the
Oakwood CERT group list. Anyway, I'd like to have an updated email list to

Hi, everyone. Pam had a great idea that we try to do some educational
events in June for Pet Preparedness Month, so I dropped off a memo at Pet
Supplies Plus yesterday asking if we could have a table on a weekend day in
June at their store. I attached a FEMA brochure (Preparing Your Pets for
Emergencies) that we would hand out that day, along with having displays of
home disaster kits and our other brochures. I hope they say yes! We may
want to approach some other pet places, as well.
I'm attaching the memo I wrote. I also found some cool graphics online at
FEMA that we can use to make posters and flyers. (See below.) I have
ordered 300 brochures from FEMA (I only had about 25 of the pet brochures
in my stash.)

Hey folks,
The Oakwood-CERT mailing list now has a new name that matches the
organization's name!
Where you used to email
oakwood-cert(a)eastraleigh.org
... you now email
certizens(a)centralraleighcert.org
... to contact the members of Central Raleigh CERT.
Please update your address books accordingly. Thanks!
Regards,
Mark
P.S. I have put aliases in place on a temporary basis until everyone
gets their address books updated.
I plan on being there.

Acccckkk! I just had something come up and was going to ask Dave or someone else to take notes tomorrow! Thank you for your leadership, Mark. It may be time to regroup and select new officers. I agree that Dave has done a wonderful job as vice chair.
Do you all want to try to meet tomorrow anyway? Can someone take notes? Or is it possible to switch it to next Thursday? If you meet tomorrow and need the codes to get into the church, please call me.
My report is that I included a blurb in the Mordecai CAC newsletter saying that we'll have training sessions in September and put my contact info in there.
