Does anyone know whats going on?
Police are at both entrances to the greenway on Crabtree by Remington
Rd. and by Somerset Rd. This is by the small park that recently had the
playground updated.
Thanks,
Cat Stewart

>From what I can discern from the police scanner traffic, there was some sort
of foot pursuit of people who had been gathered near the bench at the
greenway entrance closest to the dead end of Crabtree Boulevard -- about "20
Blood gang members," one officer said. (I would note that young people
sometimes hang out at this spot and smoke marijuana.) The police mentioned a
discarded backpack found in the vicinity.
BTW, you can check out the scanner yourself online here:

Just wanted to give a quick update on what's new with the Neighborhood
Watch.
In the wake of the tornado, we're working on reviving the community watch
and getting it up and running once more. Stay tuned for more info there. If
you're interested in helping with the planning for our meetings, please
email me off-list.
If you ordered a community watch sign and have not yet picked it up, please
contact me ASAP! I will happily deliver your sign, I'm just not sure who has
returned to the neighborhood and who is still waiting on reconstruction.
Tuesday (Aug 2) is National Night Out
<http://www.nationalnightout.org/nno/>and I want to ask everyone to
consider turning on your porch lights that
evening (from dark to 11 p.m. is the official suggestion, though I'll be
asleep before 11!) and spending some time on your porch if the weather
permits.
Thanks for your involvement, and if you need help getting your sign
installed, please let me know.

My husband and I live on Rumson and woke this morning to find that our front
door had been tampered with and the doorknob lock broken (but not
successfully picked). We got home late last night, around 1:30, and it was
fine (it's non-turnable now) so it must have occurred sometime between then
and 9 AM; we had the bedroom door closed so wouldn't have heard much. It's
possible they noticed we have an alarm system or were scared off by a
passing vehicle; either way we got lucky, but wanted to share just in case
they try again in the area!

Keep your eyes open for these kids, and call 911 if you see anyone suspicious roaming the neighborhood!

I can't say whether the thieves would have been deterred if the light worked but I every other time the bulbs burn out I change them immediately. And I've never had a problem before.

For the protection of your and your neighbors things PLEASE call 911 as soon as you see a group of people who simply do not appear to be where they should. Had I seen them from my porch just walking by at 10 pm I would have let an officer determine whether they were actually wandering or not.

At last, the signs have arrived! If you ordered one and can pick it up tonight, please stop by 1114 Brighton Rd. If you can pick it up later, call me at 919-931-4957 to arrange a time (weekdays would have to be before 8am or after 5:30pm).
If you need me to drop it off, send me your address.

The 2nd annual East Raleigh Community Day will be Saturday August 6 in the
Food Lion plaza parking lot. Last year was a lot of fun, with music and
school supply giveaways and games for the kids, plus health screenings and
info about Raleigh parks & rec programs.
They are having a contest, deadline July 7, for kids 18 and under. Draw a
picture for the t-shirts (black and white or two-color image), including
writing the theme "Building One Community." See details in Mark's message
below.

I'm near Millbank and Brighton, and we heard fireworks around that time. Hopefully this isn't going to be a recurring event through the 4th of July!
