*Subject:* *[East CAC Announce] Be alert - break-ins on the rise*
Hey folks,
Recently RPD has been performing license checks around the neighborhood
in response to a number of break-ins that have taken place in the area.
As Officer Krysko mentioned at this month's East CAC meeting, this is
the time of year when these types of crimes usually spike.
Last week, a home in the Mordecai neighborhood was burglarized and a
wide-screen TV stolen. The back door had been kicked in.
On Sunday, a sharp-eyed neighbor in Woodcrest foiled what was apparently
a break-in attempt at her neighbor's home. She apparently chased off a
man who was walking up to her neighbor's back door, dressed in black and
carrying a white bag.
Later that afternoon, a neighbor in Oakwood Park spotted a man (possibly
the same one) walking suspiciously through neighbors' backyards. The man
became agitated when he saw he was being watched and quickly went south
down N. State Street.
In both cases, these neighbors recognized suspicious activity and called
911 immediately. That's the best thing we can do to combat these crimes.
Please keep an eye on your neighborhood and should you see anything you
think is suspicious, don't hesitate to call 911 and let RPD sort things
out. Working together, we can keep our neighborhood safe!
Regards,
Mark Turner

Hello, All. This is a seeclickfix.com issue that I have submitted about
adding two more stop signs to the intersection of King Charles and
Marlborough. I have seen too many near misses with my children (and myself)
and others trying to cross this street, especially after school. Please
vote on this issue. You don't have to sign up to the website to do so. and
the more comments the better. The City of Raleigh sees the posts and all
the comments.
thanks!
Jessica Bowen
1405 Marlborough
Check out Signals / Signs http://seeclickfix.com/issues/140560-signals-signs
Please vote for the city to address this problem, as requested by neighbor
Jessica Bowen:
http://www.seeclickfix.com/issues/140560
"Powell Elementary School kids walking to and from school have to cross
King Charles St at the intersection with Marlborough Rd. In the afternoons
the carpool lane crosses over Marlborough on either side of the
intersection, impeding the view of traffic for the crossing guard and the
oncoming traffic from both King Charles and Marlborough. There have been
too many near misses for the crossing guard and the children crossing.
There needs to be a four way stop there rather than a two way."

Please vote for the city of Raleigh to address this problem, add your
comments with stories of your encounters with strays and especially with
Animal Control, and let's see if we can't get this taken care of. The city
really does respond to these complaints when they're made public.

Animal Control in Wake County (and specifically Raleigh) is a joke. I
called them to get a dog in my backyard on multiple occasions, including
one time when the dog was ASLEEP. They showed up the last time and were
actually able to get there while the dog was still there sleeping, and when
she approached it with a leash, it moved a few feet away from her and she
said she wasn't going to be able to get it. And left.
I complained (loudly) to the city, and Animal Control brought a trap to my
backyard and left it there for a few weeks, but of course the dog went
nowhere near it, and we didn't see the dog for a few weeks before it
started coming around again, so that was the end of that.
I no longer walk or run in the neighborhood because of all of this
nonsense. *Everyone who walks through the neighborhood regularly carries a
stick*, in case they have to beat off a dog. It's a nightmare, and
honestly, I'm fed up enough about it to just want to move.
*I don't understand why we can't get any funding for regular dogcatcher
patrols* in the neighborhoods with this problem, like most other cities
have.
Or why the existing handful of *county animal control officers don't even
have adequate equipment* on their trucks to pick up skittish strays.

Hey,
I've called animal control when the same dog charged another walker in early September.
A few weeks later your neighbor two doors down had it trapped in his backyard. It seems to like the City's Greenway/easement lot by our homes?
In October Travis found it at our gate trying to enter into our backyard, but it took off up the hill when he approached it.
The owners drive a jeep that is golden or beige and will occasionally drive by looking for it.
I am not sure where they live, but it must be close by…

This non-profit is offering FREE weatherization for people of any age, depending on income. This looks like a great way to save money and energy with the coming winter. There might be some people in our neighborhood who qualify! Please share this important resource with your neighbors!

have a day or time that we can expect any trick-or-treaters?

This same man came to my door around 8:15 last night. First he said he
was collecting money for kids to go to college. Then he commented on
our American flag and said he collects money for the military. When I
told him that we are an active duty military family, he changed his
story and handed me a worn out brochure about mental illness. I asked
to keep the brochure and he snatched it back and said he only had one.
