Second Union Station Public Information Session to Be Held May 1
The public is invited to attend the second in a series of public information sessions
regarding the planning and design of the Raleigh Union Station on Wednesday, May 1 at the
Contemporary Art Museum, 409 West Martin Street.
The purpose of the meeting is to solicit input regarding program elements. Conceptual
plans also will be available for review and comment
There also will be an opportunity to learn more about the City of Raleigh’s West Street
Extension Project and the South Street/Lenoir Street project at the workshop. The West
Street Extension project is a proposed connection between the north and south sections of
West Street and to close the existing at-grade crossing of the railroad at west Cabarrus
street. The South Street/Lenoir Street Project proposes to convert portions of the streets
from one-way to two-way traffic and includes of other streetscape improvements
There will be a brief presentation at 6:00 p.m. Representatives from the North Carolina
Department of Transportation’s Rail Division, the City of Raleigh and the design team will
be available to answer questions. Public comments provided at the workshop will be taken
into consideration for the advancement of the station design.
Raleigh Union Station is located at 510 West Martin Street, the existing Dillon Supply
Company warehouse building, also known as the Viaduct Building. The planning and
construction of the new station is a joint initiative of the North Carolina Department of
Transportation Rail Division, the City of Raleigh and Triangle Transit. Funding for the
first stage of design is provided by a grant from the Federal Railroad Administration.
