Justin and Rebeca Moretto's home (700 block on Brighton, near the bend) was
broken into this morning. A little neighbor girl was outside playing and ran
home to tell her mom, who called 911. The alarm and barking dogs scared off
the young men before they stole anything. I will see if we can get a
description.
This is the second break-in there in two years.

Just saw a few police and they're cruising the streets around the little
convenience store (old DMV) and it's under surveillance. Doubt it will lead
to anything but in case anyone's wondering.
Also I called the main office 996-2000 and they're going to see about
getting us a description of the Brighton break-in suspects. You can call
that number any time to find out about an incident, so do try if they're
being tight-lipped at the scene or no one seems to know after the fact.

I am unable to make the meeting tonight but would like to buy a Lockwood
Neighborhood Watch for my yard. If you could e-mail me where to send the money
for the sign and where to pick up the sign I would appreciate it. My address is
2349 Millbank St. My E-mail is joannematthews22(a)yahoo.com Thank You, Joanne
Matthews
See you at 7pm at Powell Elementary.
Can the folks who have been keeping some of our offline neighbors connected
with the happenings on this list please make sure to call and remind them
about the meeting tonight, as well as let them know about the recent
shootings on Colleton and Marlborough/King Charles?
Also if anyone has time to visit a police substation today to request some
data, please contact me off the list. It's a hectic day around here!

More news from CAC chair Mark Turner on the shooting at King Charles &
Marlborough.
Scary stuff. We need to get as many neighbors to our Neighborhood Watch
meetings as possible, so we can work on figuring out who is walking through
the area. My street gets a ton of foot traffic, and it's hard to know who
anyone is.

Here are some details from Officer Krysko on this Marlborough Rd incident:
"The victim was preparing to sleep in his vehicle located on the 1200
block of Marlborough Road when two suspects approached. The suspects
told victim to get out of the vehicle, but victim refused. The suspects
then attempted to open the car door only to find that it was locked.
Suspects again told the victim to get out and when he refused they fired
a single shot through window striking the victim in the shoulder. The
suspects immediately fled. Victim was treated for his injuries and
released from the hospital."
In addition, Lt. Hoffman and Officer Krysko both emphasize the need to
report suspicious activity as soon as you see it. The two suspects were
walking through the neighborhood hours before the shooting occurred but
no neighbors apparently took notice.
If you happen to see someone in your neighborhood acting suspiciously,
please call 911 and let the police check them out. And please get to
know your neighbors so that we can all make our neighborhood safer.

Mark

Does anyone know what happened tonight on King Charles Road? We heard lots
of police cars on all surrounding roads.

For those who may not have heard, there was a fire on Friday morning at
Eugene McClain's house (1209 Downing Rd.). I am told that it was caused by a
heating pad that malfunctioned (or perhaps the outlet it was plugged into),
and that Mr. McClain was fine but the house is in bad shape.
Feel free to post an update if you hear anything about Mr. McClain or his
home. I'd especially like to know if he is able to stay with family/friends
and if there is anything he needs that neighbors might be able to donate.

I have been seeing a deer -- a young buck -- along Millbank Street over the
past week. I just let my dogs out for the night a little while ago, around
11:30 p.m., and he was on my neighbor's front lawn at the corner of Millbank
Street and Brighton Road. Though he had three dogs barking at him
ferociously, rather than run away he sauntered right out into the
intersection, considered us for a moment, then ambled down Millbank toward
Euston. Please be careful when driving in the area, especially at night, as
this fellow was sizable enough to do some damage to a car.

If either TT or Vanessa have nine fliers to spare, please give them to Linn.
Also I did not get the first four houses on Glascock after King Charles or
the apartments there, as I ran out as well. If anyone has leftover flyers,
feel free!

Hi,
I handed out flyers down Millbanks and need about 9 more for Euston. Got
them from Rebecca but she ran out. Do you have more?
Wondering if you'll be home Sun. afternoon about 3:00 or 3:30 that I could
pick some up.
Warmly,
Linn

I have a big stack of flyers about the Neighborhood Watch meeting next week.
I very much need as many volunteers as we can get who will help me deliver
these to the houses in Lockwood. If you're even willing to just cover your
own street, that would be very helpful.
