Subject: [upha-discussion] new ATT billing scam
There is a very clever ATT billing phishing scam going around now. See the article on CNET.com here http://www.zdnet.com/malware-warning-your-at-and-t-bill-is-ready-to-be-view…
The fellow who wrote the article points out you merely have to hover your mouse pointer over the link to see if the link really is an ATT site. Another way to tell if the email is fake he did not mention is the word "maintain" is misspelled as "maintian" in one of the paragraphs.
Crooks need to use spell check, too.
Personally, I never click on links in the emails sent me by my supposed bank, utilities, etc. I always go to the site itself to pay my bills or check my balance.

This proposal also would reassign Powell ES students to Joyner, from Ligon to Daniels and Enloe to Broughton.
We live just a half mile from Powell as well and walk nearly everyday.
Parents please check, comment and share your concerns!

Subject: Memo To Raleigh CAC Leaders
Memo To Raleigh CAC Leaders:
Good morning. Recently I was stopped by a CAC Chairperson while grocery shopping. She chastised me for not doing a good enough job communicating with Raleigh's CAC leaders about Raleigh's annual Martin Luther King Holiday events and items of civic significance which the MLK Committee undertakes. Being the humble soul which I am, naturally I pleaded guilty. Hence, this communiqué is being sent to all CAC's with the hope that it will be received in the spirit intended and with the hope that these items will be shared with your membership.
First: Most of the upcoming January 2013 Martin Luther King Holiday events are posted on our website. Each event will show the date, time and location along with invited and confirmed speakers and/or performers. Please click the blue line here to review. Please bookmark this page for frequent updates: http://www.king-raleigh.org/events/bodyO.cfm
Second: On Friday past, the City's Parks, Recreation & Greenway Board received a report to expand the existing Martin Luther King Memorial Gardens in Southeast Raleigh. This is a civic project which the MLK Committee along with parks advocates have been pushing for the better part of the last ten years. The plan goes before the City Council for adoption in November. Area CAC's are encouraged to review the plans and comment as needed. Please click here to review the MLK Garden's expansion plans: http://www.raleighnc.gov/arts/content/PRecDesignDevelop/Articles/MLKJrMemor…
Third: For citizens who may become interested in attending and witnessing the historic 2013 Presidential Inauguration Ceremonies in Washington, D.C. the Raleigh MLK Committee will be having five (5) buses leaving from Raleigh at 6:00 am on January 19, 2013. We encourage all CAS's to make this information available throughout your networks. Below, please find a press release scheduled to go out next week which will provide details and a link to view the complete trip itinerary, hotel accommodation options and departure locations.
Please be so kind as to let us know if this information herein is useful to you and those in your community. If you should have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to give us a call or send back an e-note.
Most appreciatively,
Bruce Lightner, Chairman

Martin Luther King Heritage Tours
919.834.6264
Raleigh - The N.C. Martin Luther King Heritage Tours are now organizing buses to travel to Washington D.C. on January 19th for President Obama's Second Inauguration Ceremony. In 2009 the MLK group took 32 buses to the first Inauguration, which departed from Charlotte, Greensboro, Asheville, Wilmington, Durham and Raleigh.
Spurred by a surge in President Obama's recent National poll numbers organizers say now is the time to start making plans to attend the festivities. Ruby Turner, Program Director for the tour said, "As the election grows near it is going to be nearly impossible to get quality hotel rooms in the metro D.C. area" The trip is scheduled for January 19-21, 2013.
Trip prices include two night hotel accommodations, luxury bus transportation, visits to the Smithsonian Institute Museum, the U.S. Capitol Building, the Martin Luther King National Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. Passengers will also attend the Swearing In Ceremony for America's 45th President and attend the Inauguration Parade.
Bruce Lightner, logistical director of the tour said, "this will be an historic occasion on many levels, among which that for the first time in history the Presidential Inauguration will be held on the actual National Martin Luther King Holiday". Lightner concluded, "it will be a holiday weekend trip so nobody will have to miss school or work."
Reservations are now being accepted and must be received anytime prior to October 1st to secure hotel accommodations and bus seats. Trip payments will be not become due until after the election. Prices will vary for each departing location. So far, buses are confirmed to leave from Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro and Charlotte. Other departure locations may be added. From Raleigh the trip price starts at just $235 per person. To review the full trip itinerary, various hotel pricing options and registration form please click blue line here: http://www.king-raleigh.org/events/agenda.cfm?program_id=1&event_id=6589 Or, any citizen can send an email of interest to info(a)king-raleigh.org or call 919.834.6264.

I just found out about it today also we are working very hard on this issue ECAC/RPD I too can empathize with those who have experienced their homes/vehicles being victimized by burgalry, I've been a victim of this also more than once so it takes community effort working together to stop this maddness.

Hey guys,
Well, I have more sad news to report. When I was coming back from a jog yesterday around 6 pm there were a couple of people standing in the yard of the house across the street from me ([address redacted-- on Stevens Rd]). They told me that the couple (who just moved in a couple of weeks ago) are on their honeymoon and someone checking in on their house found it had been broken into. Unfortunately I don't know any more than that. I can't imagine how terrible it must be to get a call while on your honeymoon that your house has been broken into.

Interactive activities and demonstrations vary for each event, but all provide unique opportunities for participants of all ages and abilities to connect with nature and test their outdoors skills. A few of the activities include:
* Fishing
* Archery
* Air rifle marksmanship
* Cooking over an outdoor fire
* Kayaking
* Seeing live animals, like snakes, frogs, hawks, eagles and other birds of prey Check out our National Hunting and Fishing Day in NorthCarolina page for more details on each event, including a list of activities and demonstrations planned, times and directions.
The Wildlife Commission celebrates National Hunting and Fishing Day annually on the fourth Saturday in September with generous assistance from conservation partners such as the N.C. National Hunting and Fishing Day is a one-day example of the year-round efforts by the Wildlife Commission to educate and involve people in hunting,fishing and other wildlife-related activities. Visit our Learning page for more information on the many free outdoor-learning opportunities offered by the Wildlife Commission.
* All events are free and open to the public, with the exception of the two Greenwing fishing events, which charge a fee that covers the cost of a rod and reel, T-shirt, goody bag and a one-year Greenwing membership.
National Hunting and Fishing Day events, scheduled for this Saturday, offer plenty of outdoor activities the whole family can enjoy. Visit the Commission's Facebook page for a slideshow of National Hunting and Fishing Day events held last year.
