Hi All,
I just wanted to alert everyone to a theft that occurred to one of my
neighbors in the 2300 block of Stevens Rd last night. A GPS unit was
taken from a car between 7-11pm. The car was unlocked, but parked
right next to the house (not on the street). The GPS unit was not
visible (stored in a compartment in the console) and other contents of
the car were searched for valuables. I'm speculating, but it could be
possible that the perpetrator(s) were opportunistically checking cars
to see if they were unlocked. The theft has been reported to RPD.
If anyone saw anything or experienced a similar theft last night,
please report it.

thanks Emrys. Yes it is a very common occurance for criminals to check unlocked cars for
valuables (phones, GPS, money, wallet, etc) so lock your cars everyone! This happened to
my grandfather and they usually sweep whole neighborhoods.

Can you all give me a run down on the street lights in your area? Out or dim or bright or
flickering or not consistent...then write the pole number down for mr and I will give it
to the city...I have a meeting with all city departments on Monday so if you have some
ready by then I will take it with me. Thanks!

The whole area could probably use an assessment of street lights.
Specific to this theft, the nearest pole (RDS16) actually doesn't have
a light on it all. This pole is at the corner of Stevens and the
Longview Methodist Church parking lot that runs between Stevens and
Milburnie.

door handles to see if it was unlocked.
My car was parked on the street outside our house. It was still light out
if I remember right. The guy was apparently walking down the street with
his child. Oh and here's the fun part-- the neighbor knew who the door
handle checker was. It was a guy who lives a few doors down.
I'm sure whatever went missing is sure to show up very soon at a pawn shop
nearby.
