>> *WOW I WOULD FALL FOR THIS SCAM*
>>
>>
>> *Visa / MasterCard FRAUD*
>>
>> *Verified with Snopes: *
>> http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp
>>
>> This is a heads up for everyone regarding the latest in Visa fraud.
>> Royal Bank received this communication about the newest scam. This is
>> happening in the Midwest right now and moving across the
>> country.<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> This one is pretty slick, since they provide YOU with all the
>> information, except the one piece they
>> want.<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already
>> have it.<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA &
>> MasterCard telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to
>> protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from 'VISA',
>> and I was called on Thursday from
>> 'MasterCard'.<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> The scam works like this:<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> Person calling says - 'This is (name) and I'm calling from the Security
>> and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460, your card has been
>> flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This
>> would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you
>> purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a marketing company
>> based in Arizona?' When you say 'No', the caller continues with, 'Then we
>> will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been
>> watching, and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500
>> purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the
>> credit will be sent to (gives you your address). Is that correct?' You say
>> 'yes'. <http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> The caller continues - 'I will be starting a Fraud Investigation. If you
>> have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of
>> your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this
>> Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. 'Do you need me
>> to read it again?' <http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works - The caller then says,
>> 'I need to verify you are in possession of your card'. He'll ask you to
>> 'turn your card over and look for some numbers'. There are 7 numbers; the
>> first 4 are part of your card number, the last 3 are the Security Numbers
>> that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you
>> sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The
>> caller will ask you to read the last 3 numbers to him. After you tell the
>> caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, 'That is correct, I just needed to verify
>> that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your
>> card. Do you have any other
>> questions?'<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> After you say no, the caller then thanks you and states, 'Don't hesitate
>> to call back if you do', and hangs up. You actually say very little, and
>> they never ask for or tell you the card number. But after we were called on
>> Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. We were glad
>> we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the
>> last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. We made
>> a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new
>> number.*What the Scammer wants is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the
>> card. Don't give it to them.*Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master
>> Card directly for verification of their
>> conversation.<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card,
>> as they already know the information, since they issued the card! If you
>> give the Scammer your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a
>> credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for
>> purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more
>> difficult to actually file a fraud
>> report.<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a
>> 'Jason Richardson of MasterCard' with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA
>> Scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police
>> report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of
>> these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this
>> scam is happening. I dealt with a similar situation this morning, with the
>> caller telling me that $3,097 had been charged to my account for plane
>> tickets to Spain, and so on through the above
>> routine.<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>
>>
>> It appears that this is a very active scam, and evidently quite
>> successful... <http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>

>> Pass this on to all your family and
>> friends.<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcardasp>

Subject: REMINDER: 2/6/14, 6pm: Fertile Ground Food Coop in 2014!
After the snow…please remember to join us and please spread the word! Paz, ~Z
Greetings Fellow Cooperative Thinkers and Visionaries:
Please join us and help us SPREAD THE WORD (seriously, feel free to forward this now :) for the next Fertile Ground Food Cooperative Community Meeting:
WHEN: Thursday, February 6th, 6-8pm
WHERE: Biltmore Hills Community Center, 2615 Fitzgerald Dr, Raleigh, NC 27610
We'll provide light refreshments and invigorating conversation!
P.S. Below is a refresher of who we are (in case you forgot :)
Our Concept
Fertile Ground Food Cooperative (FGFC) is a SE Raleigh-based multi-stakeholder cooperative that highlights the community’s entrepreneurial spirit, helps create pathways to living-wage jobs, increases access to healthy/affordable food, and fosters collective ownership.
Who We Are
· We are a group of residents, leaders and visionaries seeking to establish a multi-stakeholder cooperative that increases access to healthy/affordable food and serves as a community/cultural center in Southeast Raleigh.
· This will be a triple-bottom line enterprise that values the well-being of the community and the planet as much as it values profit.
· We envision FGFC becoming an intergenerational hub for residents to build an alternative economy and foster personal and collective assets. In addition to increasing access to health-conscious affordable food options, this cooperative will host educational programs and cultural events as a vehicle for building customer and membership base.
· Residents of Southeast Raleigh and surrounding areas will be proud to patronize a locally and collectively owned enterprise that is contributing to the health and well-being of their community. Southeast Raleigh’s youth will have a hip and conscious gathering space. Not only will they feel welcomed in this inviting space, they are integral part of it.
· This community-led endeavor will be a model for cooperatives in our state and will be a strong partner within the broader food justice/social justice movements.
7 Cooperative Principles:
1. Voluntary and Open Membership Cooperatives are voluntary organizations, open to all people able to use its services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, without gender, social, racial, political or religious discrimination.
2. Democratic Member Control Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by their members—those who buy the goods or use the services of the cooperative—who actively participate in setting policies and making decisions.
3. Members' Economic Participation Members contribute equally to, and democratically control, the capital of the cooperative. This benefits members in proportion to the business they conduct with the cooperative rather than on the capital invested.
4. Autonomy and Independence Cooperatives are autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by their members. If the co-op enters into agreements with other organizations or raises capital from external sources, it is done so based on terms that ensure democratic control by the members and maintains the cooperative’s autonomy.
5. Education, Training and Information Cooperatives provide education and training for members, elected representatives, managers and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of their cooperative. Members also inform the general public about the nature and benefits of cooperatives.
6. Cooperation among Cooperatives Cooperatives serve their members most effectively and strengthen the cooperative movement by working together through local, national, regional and international structures.
7. Concern for Community While focusing on member needs, cooperatives work for the sustainable development of communities through policies and programs accepted by the members.

LECTURE SERIES
DR. BRUCE M. BEEHLER
In Search of Birds of Paradise in Papua, New Guinea
Saturday, Feb. 1
2pm, WRAL 3D Theater
An internationally-known ornithologist and leader of natural history expeditions, Dr. Bruce M. Beehler has studied birds-of-paradise for nearly 40 years. He has expanded knowledge of courtship behavior, foraging tactics and social systems. In 2005, he and his team were the first scientists to observe a male Bronze Parotia in the wild during an expedition deep in the Foja Mountains. More
Beehler will present highlights of more than 50 field trips to the great island of New Guinea, studying New Guinea's wonderful birds-of-paradise and other bizarre wildlife. In addition, the amazing cultural diversity of New Guinea's indigenous people will be featured.
He will sign copies of his book, Lost Worlds: Adventures in the Tropical Rainforest immediately following the lecture.
