Subject: NC artist, ROBERT JOHNSON returns with NEW "Works on Paper" Nov. 1
Join us thisFirst Friday for the opening of our Featured Exhibit:
Works on Paper by Robert Johnson
November 1-December 1
Old Growth and Clear Cut
We are delighted to welcome back distinguished NC artist, Robert Johnson for his second show here in the Gallery. He had a great show here in 2009 winning many fans and collectors with his North Carolina Nature Journal Pages and we have continued to sell those ever since with great success.
Since 2009 he has traveled to and created works on the landscapes of Alaska, Peru, Cuba and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He also completed a series of works about the Appalachian Trail and of course, when at home in NC he is always painting and drawing. Notable among his recent NC works are several large commissioned murals and a commissioned painting for the NC State Bar Association's new building on Edenton St.
This time around he will be showing and selling watercolors, gouaches and acrylics inspired by our beautifully diverse North Carolina landscape all done on paper that are stylistically similar to his large format paintings.
Pink Beds
Please join us
First Friday, November 1, 6:30-9pm at a reception to celebrate the opening of this exciting new show. _____________________________

Subject: [CAC-leadership] NCDOT 40/440 Rebuild Project "Fortify" Information
Having trouble viewing this email? View it as a Web page. |
The project, formerly known as “Crawleigh”, is moving forward with a new name: FORTIFY.
What is Fortify?
The Fortify project involves removing and replacing an 11.5-mile stretch of I-40 and I-440 to address immediate safety concerns. The 30-year-old pavement is cracking and crumbling because of a chemical reaction, called ASR, happening in the road. The reaction is triggered by water mixing with a substance that was used in paving several decades ago.
In addition to rebuilding the road, crews will extend two miles of auxiliary lanes to help manage additional traffic. They will also rehabilitate 14 bridges within the project zone to extend their life by many years.
Project Timeline
The first stage, rebuilding I-440, begins this fall. Crews will replace the section from the I-40/U.S. 64/I-440 interchange, known as “the 40 split,” to just north of the U.S. 64/264 Knightdale Bypass.
* Week of October 28: Nighttime lane closures begin for prep work
* Early December: Daytime lane closures begin
Stage two, daytime lane closures for rebuilding I-40, is scheduled to begin by late 2014, when crews will replace the pavement from U.S. 1/64 all the way to the I-40 split.
The entire project is scheduled to wrap up by Fall 2016.
Tools to Keep You Informed
* http://links.govdelivery.com/track?type=click&enid=ZWFzPTEmbWFpbGluZ2lkPTIw… – The Fortify website, which was built by NCDOT’s Web Services Team, is your one-stop shop for all project-related information. It features maps, details on where to catch alternate transit options and links to live traffic cameras through a partnership with WRAL News. There is even a top 40 playlist of jams to help you through the traffic.
* Facebook – We’ve launched a Fortify Facebook page where we’ll share updates on traffic flow and project progress daily, post photos and videos, and engage in conversation with our followers.
* Twitter – The project Twitter feed, @FortifyNC, will offer real-time travel information any time of day or night. They're in the process of linking the Twitter feed with TIMS, so whenever an incident occurs within the project area, you’ll get an instant alert on your computer or mobile device. It’s a great way to “know before you go!”
* Tumblr – They’ve also created the department’s first Tumblr site, which offers a way to keep up with all online content and conversations about the project in one simple location.
NCDOT is committed to keeping drivers informed every step of the way throughout this massive project to fortify not just a road but the community, as well. For more information on Fortify, visit http://links.govdelivery.com/track?type=click&enid=ZWFzPTEmbWFpbGluZ2lkPTIw….
