The Cancer Prevention Study-3 in Wake County is being held from March 12-March 22 at 10 convenient locations across Wake County . Those eligible to participate must be: between the ages of 30-65 (or turning 30 within six months of enrollment), Have never been diagnosed with cancer (excluding baso/squamous skin cancer) and are willing to complete follow up surveys every 4-5 years either by postcard or email. This follow time frame will occur over the net 20-30 years.
The first step to participate in the study is by visiting the following website: www.cps3wakecounty.orgto schedule an appointment. (under 2 mins)
Next your appointment will be confirmed via email, and then you will be asked to complete a baseline survey before your enrollment. (approx. 25 mins)
On the day of enrollment, you will check in at registration, complete a 5 minute survey, have your waist measured in Centimeters, and then a Quest Diagnostic Phlebotomist will draw 7 teaspoons of blood.
Attached are several promotional materials for CPS-3 that have been successful in spreading the word on this study. I would be able to supply your facility and any community affiliates with the necessary flyers for distribution. I am also available to present this material to your staff and answer and questions they may have regarding the study. We have also found Facebook and Twitter to be very effective in reaching large groups of people.

Hey neighbors,
I hope this email finds you all well. I will keep this brief and to the point. The next LPCW meeting is coming up in a little more than a week. We will touch base on the restoration process under way along Locke, talk about recent crime activity in the area and follow up on the initiatives we started at the end of 2012. I hope you can all make it out to the meeting.
Please note there has been a slight uptick in burglaries in the area. Be on the lookout for suspicious activity and don't hesitate to call it in to the Police. That's what they're here for.

Hey folks,
Here's a friendly reminder about the RPD Community Directed Police Priorities meeting.
Friday March 8th, 2013 7 pmEnloe Media Center
Officer K has been kind enough to provide pizzas and beverages for the meeting tonight. Come on out!
Matt Leary
Hey folks,
I was originally going to have a LPCW meeting next week at Enloe, but realized that Officer Krysko would be holding a East Raleigh Community Directed Priorities Meeting the same week. So as not to create "meeting fatigue", we'll shift the LPCW meeting to later in the month. I will post a revised date once I get confirmation from Enloe that the date change is okay with them.
Since we won't be having the LPCW meeting next week, I highly encourage everyone to participate in the East Raleigh Community Directed Priorities Meeting. This will be a great opportunity to talk directly with the Police regarding issues affecting you in your area. Meeting information below.

Just a reminder...
The second traffic calming workshop for Milburnie Road has been
scheduled for Monday, February 11th at Lions Park starting at 7:00pm.
Did anyone hear that? Sounded like a transformer blowing in the Longview Lake area. Don't think it was a gun shot...

Subject: [East-CAC] suspicious solicitation
Hi Neighbors,I just had a strange interaction with a solicitor. A woman just came to my back door with her hand over her eyes to shield her view from the glare on the glass storm door and appeared to be trying to see inside. It did not look like she saw that I was inside. I came to door and asked if I could help her, and she showed me a laminated flyer and said that she was offering floor cleaning. She appeared to be looking inside my house to see what kinds of floor I had as she made up her spiel about the kinds of floors that they cleaned. I told her I wasn't interested. Then I asked why she came to my back door instead of the front door. She said that she saw my car parked behind the house and thought that would be where I would be. I said, Well, usually people come to the front door. She walked back down my driveway and got into a brown SUV that was stopped on the street (not in the driveway). This was very strange because my house it as the top of a hill in a no-parking zone, and cars do not usually stop right there. The SUV drove off as soon as she got in and went down the road.
The woman was wearing a black sweatsuit (zippered black jacket and black pants). She was around average height (probably 5'6" or so), white complexion, spoke with a bit of an Eastern European accent, black hair with gray that was pulled back. It looked like there were at least two other people in the SUV.
I just called the police to report this suspicious behavior. Please be on the lookout.
Thanks,Ann2213 Rumson

> Rebuilding Capital Boulevard starts with demolition
>
> Raleigh, N.C. — City planners hope to roll a strike by replacing a
> former bowling alley on Capital Boulevard with green space that could
> spur more investment in the area.
>
> Dotted with warehouses, abandoned buildings and nondescript structures,
> the Capital Boulevard corridor isn't the most attractive gateway into
> downtown Raleigh. Starting with a stretch just inside the Interstate 440
> loop, planners said they want to let the area go back to a "natural state."
>
> "This is an area that's in the floodplain, and it frequently floods,"
> Deputy Planning Director Ken Bowers said Tuesday. "We need the
> floodplain to do its natural work of cleaning the storm water and
> providing a place for floodwater to go so it doesn't damage private
> property."
>
> Crews will raze the former AMF Bowling center at 1827 Capital Blvd.,
> between Fenton Street and Crabtree Boulevard, as well as an access
> bridge to the center that crosses Pigeon House Creek. The demolition is
> scheduled to be completed by the end of March.
>
> The city bought the AMF property last year for $1.1 million.
>
> In the future, Bowers said, Raleigh plans to buy and demolish nearby
> buildings on Capital Boulevard and create a park in the median of the
> corridor, which would eventually connect the Crabtree Creek Greenway to
> the north with downtown Raleigh.
>
> The green space will help filter storm water runoff and cleanse Pigeon
> House Branch, which ranks as Raleigh's most polluted creek, and Bowers
> said planners envision it sparking redevelopment of the corridor.
>
> "We do think the amenity this will provide will cause a lot of people to
> look at the corridor much more favorably for new investment," he said.
> "It'll be a model for green infrastructure, it'll be an economic
> development project and it'll be a great gateway into downtown Raleigh."
>
> Mark Cabot, the owner of Mission Bungalow, said he supports the city's
> efforts. His furniture and lighting business has been on Capital
> Boulevard for about a year.
>
> "You'd like to have it be beautified," Cabot said. "You''d like to see
> them do this as a gateway (similar to) what you see happening in
> downtown and Glenwood South."
